Aggressive Rooster - problem?

This was meant for me to see. My BR roo has forced the issue this week with my GS's here for 10 days ~ he is getting worse. And yesterday we had a chick party and I couldn't let the kids into the run to feed the hens, My dh has gently moved me toward chicken and dumplings. Boo Hoo it's time.

I did retrain a little Japanese bantam roo that I really loved and had made a pet of. I learned my lesson with him. My roosters are now great defenders of the girls but give me total respect.

LOL I had to check a hen the other day in the coop. She gave out an alarm call and two Roos came running. It was kind of comical to see them skid to a halt when they realized who was "threatening" their lady. They kinda acted very nonchalant then and wandered around like they didn't have any real purpose there, then left. I wondered what they would do if they thought I might actually hurt a hen. I found out.

Unfortunately with kids it's harder. Some animals can respect what's yours, but chickens just don't think that way. Everyone participates in the pecking order on their own merits.

We have a 3 strike rule at our house when it comes to roos being agressive with us. The 3rd time, you are in the freezer.

However, it hasnt happened yet, and hopefully never will, but if one went after one of my nephews or another kid, it would have a 3 minute rule! Just long enough to catch it, stick it in a cone and pull out my pocket knife.

just sayin......

Just want to put in my 2 cents--I have a HUGE Brahmin rooster who I am renaming Manson. He is incredibly aggressive. I have to defend myself when I'm even just letting them out of the coop for the day. It has gotten ridiculous!
