Facts:
*I have an aggressive 1 year old rooster.
*I have 4 hens living with that rooster since the start.
*The top of the pecking order goes to a hen that is the hen i bought first. (they were 2, 1 died). She may peck the hell out of the rooster and he RUNS away like a silly teenager.
*I have hatched 1 chick that belongs to the rooster (leghorn) and a hen (production red) on 14/February/11
*One month later, i bought two chicks similar size to mine so its not alone.
Issue:
I want to introduce the 3 chicks to the flock and i cant. I moved them outside one month ago, and they lived in a cage 4x4 feet, in my yard, where my flock free range, they see each other all day every day. About two weeks ago, i moved the 3 chicks in a bigger pen 12x16 feet or something, its still in my yard and the chickens all see each other.
I tried 4-5 times, to introduce them. I failed! The first couple of times i just let the chicks out and the rooster attacked anything in his way in rage. One of the times it almost worked, i invited my flock in the bigger pen and throw bread all around the ground so my flock was eating with my chicks. The top hen was staring like a cop, and the flock was eating, then my rooster did the same thing. All of sudden, he attacked the poor chicks.
That rooster, cannot behave. I have done anything that crosses your minds, hold him upside down, hold him on the ground with his eyes closed, take him trips around the yard, take him to places he never was before, isolating him in cardboard boxes. I even made this thing that looked like a silly dance, hold the rooster and swing him back and forth, LOL!!! I have tried and i will try everything of this forum, but i doubt it will work with this beast.
Solutions:
1) Eat the rooster
2) Train the rooster
3) Isolate the rooster for ever
Question:
Too much trouble, he even attacks me, but i kinda love him, he crows and i can hear if something is wrong from the way he crows, few times i found uninvited visitors outside my house just because he crowed in a unregular way.
Am i getting soft? Or am i just admitting i am? Should i just kill that beast that causes trouble and does not let my flock expand? Or should i offer 3 young chicks to my lovely beast?
Need opinions here!!
