Aggressive rooster

Thank you! He only tried to peck me twice tonight. He thought about it a lot more and then walked away. He wasnt quite as concerned when I picked up his fav hen. Progress for sure!

This is my barhama/cochin rooster. Hes basically a gental giant! He knows to respect me but will defend my hens. What I did to avoid agression was I held vulnerable alot when he was little and had no fear going by him. If you show fear it makes you more vulnerable to him attacking again.

Well I have been going in every day and he leaves me alone. You can see he hesitates and decides not to do anything. I hope he will keep that up when I get back from vacation

Ok so, I was a bit gunshy i think. He is a good rooster, calls the hens over when I give food or treats. He did peck my feet yesterday (the ONE day I wear sandals...), ouch. So today, I wore jeans and boots and he gave me my space and sometimes came close, eyed me and then pecked my foot...walked away and did it again. Since I had boots on, I didn't care. I ignored him but did purposefully walk through him a few times and he pecked my foot every time. I pushed him out of the way gently with my foot. He isn't charging me. I did pick up one of the hens on purpose and carried her around and he got a bit agitated but just watched me. I told him she was mine, not his.

Am I doing the right things? He is young, about 5months now and maturing and growing into his role as head rooster.

That all sounds good, keep it up!
It's more about your attitude than his, be firm but calm....if you feel anxious it makes them nervous and reactionary.

Might be some changes and/or 'retraining' after you're gone for vacation...who's taking care of the chickens while you're gone?

Ok so I came back and went in there today, my rooster pecked at me and when i went to move him with my leg, he flew at my legs. Grrr. I am hoping that it's because I was gone and have to restart the "training" thoughts? Is there hope for him or is he chicken dinner?

Pass the biscuits and gravy....he's toast....wouldn't think of having a mean roo...his genetics might be passed on to his progeny.

How was he with your husband while you were gone?
They can forget who is who......I've never been away to test the theory, but it amazes me how the chickens 'hide' when someone new comes near their run.
