Aggressive rooster

He has always been fine with him. He doesnt do this with him at all. He circled me and was hesitating and then pecked my leg. I was scared tho but I need to go back in there this afternoon for water and will be prepared mentally.

Not projecting your own anxiety is the number one problem folks have with most aggressive cocks.
They can feel your fear and it makes them nervous, moving slowly, calmly and talking softly to them and yourself can help.

I am def trying. I was vwry confident when i left and walked thru him so I should have done that before he had time to think about it.

Have you ever watched the Dog Whisperer? His biggest thing is the dog owners attitude and feelings, says that dogs pick up on your feelings and know if you are scared.

Possibly the same things with roosters, they know if you are scared of them and they may feed on that. I would suggest adding leather gloves to your "run access" clothing. It will give you added protection from pecking and since you are more protected you may be less afraid.

I would also suggest if he attacks your leg or even pecks your foot when you try to walk through him, as soon as he shows aggression to you quickly bend down and pin him to the ground. Don't worry about picking him up yet, just hold him down for a few min. Again this is a place where gloves will give you more confidence. If you miss pinning him down, don't chase him around just wait till the nextt time he goes at you and try again.

Remember, you are bigger, you are boss, you can KILL him. So when you go in the run go in with that attitude and remember your place and maybe he'll learn his place. If not then it's off to freezer camp, I"ve yet to meet a mean roo that wasnt' cured by being shipped off to freezer camp.

good luck, remember there's lots of free/cheap roos on CL, too many to stress over a mean one.

At the chance of feather ruffling here.... if he was mine I would invite him to BBQ night. That said, you may be able just o but a blinder on his happy butt. I know some of my roosters didn't feel so tough once a blinder was put on em.

I work with dogs and cats so I know attitude is everything and yet I'm still gun-shy. I have been wearing overalls that are super thick and it gives me confidence. He leaves me alone and hasn't tried anything at all. I'm willing to give him a chance only because he's only like this with me, not my husband or my kid and my husband is gone this week so if i were to eat him, i would have to wait for him to be home lol

If i had an aggressive rooster i would show it whose boss. After a while if he don't like it and gets out of hand he goes on the BBQ. I don't let them boss me around, show them you are boss.

hope this helps and remember don't let him boss you around.

My little roo, Dexter, has been bossy since day one. I planned on keeping him, but all his siblings are way nicer then him and he is a little meanie. He pecks me every chance he gets, on the neck, face, hands, legs, anywhere. He follows my feet and pecks them. Now, it seems as if he is just doing it to be mean, not because he thinks he can boss me around or anything. He actually tries to swallow my fingers when I hold them out to him.
While Dexter isn't a keeper (he's going to the stew pot), I admire how fast this breed grows. He was twice the size of some of my other chickens just a couple weeks ago and is still larger then any of the others, even my giants. However, he was aggressive towards me much younger then any of my other roosters have been. This is probably because he trusts me. I have aggressive roosters that were parent raised and are too afraid of me to every challenge me, which I greatly appretiate.

Dexter and Shere Khan, my Delaware and my Partridge Rock roosters. They are around a month and a half old.
