Aggressive rooster

After catching and holding my rooster down on the ground 4-5 times he's finally stopped trying to attack me .I was ready to put him in the soup pot but roosters are scarce here(took me 8 months to find one) I make my rooster leave the extension when I walk in .He stays in the run until all my chores are done before I let him back out. Unless you want to go thru what I do get rid of him.
Unfortunately he jumped at my 1yr old the other day (Didn’t hurt her just knocked her over) and in the moment of panicked he got a small kick to the butt before jumping at her again, he ended up with a small limp but is ok now (2 days later) however he doesn’t seem to have the balls to attack anyone anymore or even look that them. Roosters are also scarce here so I’m hoping to make it work... (and no my animals don’t get abused it was a moment of panicking about my daughter and trying to get him away)

My advise is keep your rooster away from your kids .Next time might be worse.

I had a hen that attacks everyone except me. She bit their toes if they wore sandles lol. That was nearly a year ago. I did rehome her, but not because of that.
Right now I have a silkie rooster that I raised up from a chick and he's the nicest boy ever. But for some reason he recently started to hate my 6 year old brother. He flies at him and attacks him. It's not really a problem for us since I'm usually the only person that goes in the chicken pen.

Yesterday was my roots birthday. He turned 1 year old. His first chicks are also about to hatch next week.

(Sorry here's my actual advice)

I'm not sure how your chickens live, but I'm assuming they free roam around if he attacks your family whenever he wants. Maybe get them a run or enclose so that you could just go feed them and be with them whenever you want and your kids would be safe too. He could have his own little world with his hens in there and not bother anyone.

The only suggestion I have is maybe try hugging him every time he attacks. You mentioned that he doesn't attack you so maybe the person he attacks should hug him and hold him for a little bit. I've heard it helps roosters learn their place.
Your rooster shouldn't be rewarded and cuddled for attacking a child

When did I say I rewarded him for it? My brother rarely is interested in going in with the chickens at all. And when he does I always hold my rooster so that nothing bad would happen.

Your brother would be hurt if tried hugging him after being attacked. Please keep holding him.

Generally speaking, they may be timid for a moment but aggression tends to escalate. First they attack the weakest members of the family in their eyes. Children, timid people..then they begin to challenge even adult men and the people who feed them. Remember a rooster can and will blind a child at worst. At best they can traumatize a kid so bad they never want to be around chickens again. My mom is still scared of chickens after being attacked by a roo as a child.

Chickens are creatures of habit and they like there surrounding to be very familiar.

Sometimes it takes constant exposure like being around them or working along side them on a regular schedule to let them know your not a threat.

Knowing this can help to curve the attacks down. But won't help if you have a guest popping into there territory on occasions.
