Agitated horse

Wellll. I told you I was stupid, I guess I should explain. I was leading 2 horses at the time; these two usually go out together. The pony on the right I was sort of expecting some reaction from, the old Arab on the left, I wasn't. With my attention divided between them, I wasn't prepared for the Arab to go scooting backward like a roping horse when the rope settles on a calf, and I couldn't react quickly enough to either go with her or drop the lead. Dumb move on my part.

Having seen some other horses' reaction to the table, I should have broken with the usual pattern, and taken them one at a time.

Do you have any neighbor's around? Maybe he's seeing a change in their yard or something, that we wouldn't pay any mind to.

A horse I leased was like that. He walked out and saw a tarp and went crazy. He even spoked at a butterfly. The things horses spook at.

My horse freaked out over a lawn chair in the round pen once. I put her in there and made her make friends. She screamed for 20 minutes then realized I wasnt listening. After that she just stood there begging for treats.

There isnt by chance bears in the area? Coyotes? Bobcats?

If none of those, maybe a mare in heat? When my mare went into heat, the stud in the next stall tried to come over the divider to get to her. I had no idea there was a stud in the barn!

You said you board horses and don't know a whole lot about them.... Does this mean that this is your horse but you don't know much about care because you keep them at a boarding barn, or that this horse belongs to someone else and they board him at your house? If you are not the owner of the horse you need to notify the owners immediately and tell them in detail what you noticed so that they can determine if the horse needs vet care. Colic and/or exposure to toxic plants is extremely serious - possibly life threatening - and the horse needs to see a vet immediately. If this is your horse keep a close eye on him and get a second opinion from someone who is more knowledgeable. If something is not right call the vet immediately. Colic in particular is nothing to mess around with and it can be remedied in most cases with a dose of Banamine if you catch it early. If this is your horse take this as a good opportunity to learn more about horse care. They are not like dogs and cats and require much more extensive knowledge to keep them healthy so you should do as much reading as possible and even better, try to learn from someone with more experience.

The horses do not belong to me. I could notify the owner next time something seems awry. This odd situation seems to have resolved after a few days. The owner doesn't exactly seem to care and doesn't have $ or transportation to care, so I will try to contact her when it's a dire need.

I'm observant and smart, so hopefully I'll notice when something's truly the matter. However, if they suffer for lack of care, it will be the owner's responsibility.
