I was given a free chick from McMurray even though I requested not to receive it (they could not assure a hen). This free chick is pretty aggressive and has been jumping on and chasing the other chicks. Does this mean it is a rooster? Is there anyway to tell? Also, my "Rhode Island Reds" are actually brown. Did they send me the wrong chickens?

No this does not mean that it's a roo(although packing peanuts as your extra is called are usually roo's.). RIR's are brown when they are chicks and get more red as they mature. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I've got a 4 week old chick that's not being very nice to the others and I was wondering if it was a rooster as well.
I was reading that around 5-6 weeks their comb start to show if it's a rooster. So i going to keep my fingers crossed that it's a girl

I've read that the free chick is most often a roo. However their behavior doesn't necessarily mean that they are. It could be a pullet at the top of the pecking order. They have their pecking order up and running at a very young age.
