I have five adult Appleyards (4 hens 1 Drake), the Drake has singled out one female and became very aggressive, chasing her away from treats given, isolating her from the rest of the flock, chasing her long distances over land and water to mate and harassing her even at night in the duck house.

History: The drake and one hen was together for a few months before I introduced three other hens in the flock. One of these, who is the the harassed one, did pick on the older hen and the drake came to the rescue, this was almost a year ago. I was thinking of getting rid of the problem hen.

The other concern I have three ducklings two months old, separated from the older ducks, They are developing into one Drake and two hens it seems by the different quacks. One or two of the older hens and the drake goes at it with the younger ones thru the fence at times. In the past the older drake becomes really aggressive toward any other outside ducks even Canada Geese which fly into our pond. I am sure this is going to happen with I introduce them.

One idea is to introduce one of the less aggressive hen to the young ducks and see how that goes. The other idea is to get ride of the current Drake and keep the younger drake?

Need some advice.

If i were you i would give the younger drake away because a duck does not like change. The other ducks might pick on the younger drake before he is old enough to chase the others off of him.

If you decide to give away the younger drake let me know please my daughter has been wanting a duckling for a long time.

But if you are really wanting to get ride of the oldest drake keep the youngest drake with the other ducklings to he is full grown. When he is full grown get ride of the oldest drake and put the youngest in with the rest of the ducks.Hope that helped.
