I have three 4 month old pheasants, one a yellow golden who I'm guessing by eye color is a male, and two red goldens whose sexes I'm unsure of. One red golden does what looks like a mating dance - turning to the side, ruffing up what little cape it has, hissing - to the other. Do females do this to assert dominance, or is this likely a male? The other responds by jumping around towards the first or running away. They two look very similar in color and feathering to my untrained eye, but then, these are my first pheasants.

I guess it's just a combination of bad photography skills, my inability to get them to HOLD STILL, DARN IT! and sheer laziness that keeps me from posting pictures to ask what sex people think they are. I'd like to figure out what I have, but I know, just like when expecting a baby, the answer will be pretty obvious in due time.
