Agressive rooster

well I don't have a dog of anything that could help protect them
Old timers always had a dog or two to protect their chickens.People now try to do it without dogs. Its much harder to do it your way. If something with teeth and claws chases my chickens something equally equipped saves them.I only free range them when I'm home so if anything tries to kill my dogs I'll shoot it

well he does not attack my mom. she feeds him and he trusts her. I am still trying to gain his trust.
It's not that he doesn't trust you, he's trying to dominate you and drive you off as he views you as a rival rooster. A few people have had success getting their rooster to accept their dominance and presence but most don't. He's your bird so you're free to do as you see fit, but know that this will more likely than not only get worse. I wish you luck in any case

I have a legbar. Not a large breed or aggressive fortunately.
Definitely less intimidating than some.
