mom'sfolly - Bearded Dragons are great reptiles. We've had ours for 2 years and he is a sweetheart. Just make sure you thoroughly research their requirements and don't rely on what the pet store tells you because pet stores (especially the chain stores) are notorious for giving bad information about their care. They've been known to give such bad information that it caused the death of the animal. Actually I would recommend getting one from a breeder rather than a chain store anyway. We got ours directly from the breeder at a reptile show. He's beautiful and healthy and spoiled rotten.

Beautiful snakes, Jordan!!! Just the other day, I lifted up the wooden ramp I have for the ducks to enter their pool and there was the PRETTIEST ribbon snake curled up underneath. It wasn't real real big so I escorted it out of the yard, lest he become a snack for the chickens! Ribbon snakes can get pretty big and are easy to keep as pets. I've had many over the years and most did eat goldfish. I have lots of funny stories about when I kept one in my first grade classroom. For instance, once I was holding him and he crawled right out of his old skin in front of the kids! I had skin in one hand, snake in the other! Once he escaped from his cage and disappeared. He showed up a couple of months later on a shelf in the school library!! (Can you imagine the shock of whoever found him while reaching for a book!!

) I guess he lived on the roaches running rampant in the school!

Nice snakes. That's as close as I like to get though, seeing them in pictures. I missed where this thread must have started, but nice to meet you, Jordan, and all of you intrepid snake handlers.

I remain one of the 'un-enlightened' on the subject of snakes as pets...

I just love their coloring.
I have a ball python, my hubby rescued from a guy that got it just to impress the ladies. He couldn't ever get it to eat & gave "Slither" to us.

My nine year old loves reptiles too. He's doing such a great job taking care of the chickens, a bearded dragon is probably in his future. I like snakes, yours are very pretty, but I don't like the whole idea of feeding them. Everyone says a bearded dragon is a good reptile for a beginner. We'll see. I'd like to get one a little bigger than the small babies at the pet store. Small baby anythings are so fragile.

Bearded Dragons are awesome! They are the perfect starter reptile. They say Leopard Geckos are too, but they are smaller and nocturnal. Beardies just sit there, so they are a lot easier to handle as your first reptile. Feeding them isnt bad either, they love their veggies! Thanks for the compliment on my snakes too. I thought feeding them would be tough too, but its pretty easy now. Im feeding them Frozen mice now, so its really easy. Also, baby Beardies arent hard to care for at all really, they just eat a ton!

S28C, got it,lol. I dont use heat lamps on my snakes, I think Under Tank Heaters work a lot better. Certain Snakes, like Ball Pythons and Corn Snakes, spend more time on the ground. The UTH warms them up so they can digest their food easier.

Thanks Ellen!! If my snakes got loose, Im pretty sure I'd be dead,lol. I love all kinds of snakes though, they are awesome creatures. I saw a Ribbon snake when we went camping, but the little guy got away.

Thanks Bayouchica, I havent rescued any snakes yet, but It would be nice. The 4 I just got were purchased from Kathy Love, dont know if you know who that is or not. She's a legend in the Corn Snake hobby. Thanks though! Great to know Im not the only chicken owner that loves his snakes too!

LOL Shelly! I figured that was your guess! Hahaha, yep. Bird population has to go down, but snakes dont take up a lot of room!

Thanks You Shelly, Im enjoying them a lot! Little Irwin tried to eat my hand, but that's all good. I will post pics no doubt! Im taking pics of them every time they shed so I can see how they grow.

Your snakes are really beautiful. I've been on Kathy Love's website drooling over her snakes before. My daughter wants a corn really bad, but we are simply out of room in our house for cages! I honestly don't know where we could put one other than our guest room, but we have regular guests (grandparents) who wouldn't be too fond of sleeping next to a snake.

Yes, baby beardies eat a ton! I was ordering 1000 crickets every 2-3 weeks while ours was in his growth spurt. He still isn't too fond of veggies, the little brat, but I now raise tropical feeder roaches so I don't have to buy crickets anymore. With rare exceptions, beardies are very docile and friendly and easily handled - ours goes outside on a leash and regularly has the run of the house with supervision. They aren't hard to care for, but they also aren't cheap to set up properly either. And parasite infestations that may need veterinary treatment aren't uncommon. A lot of people aren't prepared for how much they may need to spend the first few months. After the first year expenses go down considerably though and we sure do love our little man. If anyone wants a reptile that is truly a pet, I can highly recommend a bearded dragon.

Thank You! I still drool over her site and I already have my snakes! lol. I have to let them settle in for a couple of weeks so I enjoy lookin at those right now. I think the Amel Stripes are Amazing! I have an Amel, but no stripe....yet,lol. My parents and grandparents would NEVER sleep in my room. My grandma is so scared of my snake, I can scare her with his skin! She was scared of my rats too, so oh well. Plus, my room is so stinkin hot from all of the lights and UTHs,lol.

I know! I used to breed Beardies and it was hectic,lol. They ate so much, but they are soooo so cute so it makes up for it! I wanted to raise roaches, but my mom was REALLY against that. She let me breed crickets, but I could never keep them alive. They arent cheap to set up, but I lucked out and got a 150-200 gallon aquarium, all of the lights and accessories AND 4 Adult Beardies for FREE. It was my Christmas Present,lol. My mom's boss gave them all to us. So it was great. The coolest part was watching the little babies hatch though! Now I have one lone female, Sunny. She's a chunk and she loves her veggies.
