Ahhh!!! What do I use? My chickens are really sick!!!

Ok I have chickens that are sick (sneezing, coughing, and you can here there chest rattling when they breath) and we bought some medicine for them its called oxytetracycline. It says its ok for poultry but not to give it to chickens that you use for eggs. So is there any medicine that we can give them that it will still be ok to eat there eggs???? Also my chickens are different ages and sizes. (young silkies to adult rhode island reds) We have a tractor supply here that has Injectable Tylan and we thought about using it how much do we have to give them? Where do we inject them? How much do we give them? Also if we use injectable tylan will it still be ok to eat there eggs?

Do a search on Tylan and you'll find the dosages here somewhere. I don't know them off the top of my head.

Alternately you can use the package directions for the -cyclene antibiotics.

Typically you just have to trash the eggs for a period of time (withdrawl) time after the antibiotics. Do a websearch for the antiobiotic you choose to use and the terms 'withdrawl' and 'egg' and see what you can find.

Most folks here do about 3 weeks of trashing eggs AFTER the end of the antibiotic course, but it can vary depending on the drugs used.

You will have to trash the eggs whatever you use. The only medication that you can get away with this is Wazzine which is used for worming. I still would never give out eggs for at least a week. You can use the wazzine eggs for boiled eggs back to the chickens. I am done giving advise on antibiotics. I now realize that people will just use whatever is recommended and not think through what they are doing. Tylin, Bytril, Corrid the list goes on and on. Most people are using these as "off label" medications. Some have great success and some kill their flock.
