-know if someone has answered your question?
-commented on your comment?
-get more responses to your posted question?
-keep track new responses to your posted questions?

Go to your profile. Which is shown above as an option when you are in the forum.
Under profile menu (shown on left of screen), under essentials option at the bottom of page there is a place that shows "show all posts" "show all topics".
"Show all posts" will show you all the posts that you make - good if you make a comment on someone else's post and want to see what was said later.
"show all topics" will show all the topics that you have posted as the originator.

Also, if you "subscribe" to your post, you will be notified by email of subsequent comments.

OK, I can tell you that like to think of myself as someone who's up to date on all the latest "stuff"...but what's a thread and where do I find it?

Look below the post I just made here and to the left. A thread is what we are talking on now. It is a group of posts discussing a topic. In this case the first question you posted.
