Ailing pullet... help!

If it is any help to you, I've had my girls for a few years and I've had so many weird little bouts, some I never get diagnosed, that the chickens have bounced back from with supportive care and time. You can gently massage her throat and make sure you don't feel anything weird stuck in there. Breathe deep and have faith. If I have ANY regrets from my early run-ins with illness, it's that I was too eager and overzealous to intervene. Keeping them safe and warm and monitoring what their body is telling them to do goes a long way. If you think she's clocking 24 hrs or more without water, I'd do a little karo syrup and see if she perks up at all...
all the best to you and your chicken!

Thank you Overrun. I'll keep that in mind. I guess I'm a little frantic for her. I hope it'll just be like you said, one of those unexplained bouts that she'll pull out of. Will keep you all posted!

Hello again - my barred rock is still alive. Maybe a little more perky today. I've kept her separated from the others in our laundry room. OK, I noticed this afternoon that when she pooped it was a pale yellow and not much of it but she hasn't been eating or drinking much. I have given her a little syrupy water with a dropper and I think that helped. I can hear a little rattle when she breathes and now I'm thinking maybe upper respitory? Antibiotics? WHAt should I give her? She still is a bit listless but a bit better today.

Any ideas, all you chicken experts?

AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, ARE MY OTHER PULLETS GOING TO GET IT?????

Wow...ok. If you are hearing wheezing, I would use duramycin in their water and I would treat all of them. Yes, it is contagious so I would just treat everyone. You should be able to get duramycin at any feed store.
