Ainawgsd's farm chickens

I had to work this weekend, so poor Rose went an extra day between bandage changes. But last night's excavations were super satisfying! We got two huge chunks out of the bad foot. It's still very swollen, but at this point I'm not sure if there's more infection in there or if it's just inflammation. Hopefully we've turned the corner and are on the mend.

Didn't get much out of the bad foot tonight, so I'm pretty sure we've turned the corner. I also put the triple antibiotic ointment in a 1mL syringe and  packed the wound. Next bandage change we'll remember to bring the chlorhexadine and rinse it really well.

Love how my buckeyes always look disgruntled from head on

And now for today's scheduled picture dump

The malines are all looking so grown up now.

I was worried Rose's giant boyfriend also had bumblefoot because he was holding one leg tucked up yesterday. But husband checked their feet last night at bedtime and there was no signs of sores or abrasions, so apparently it's a case of monkey see monkey do?

Speaking of Rose, she's doing well! I didn't notice her limping yesterday. She's definitely using the bad foot much better now.

Note to self: red barn paint looks sharp on coops, but  concerning on chickens.

Mr Dancy Pants behaved himself while I was out there yesterday, not so much as a sideways look.

Well, I thought we were getting better, but Rose's bad foot is still very swollen. It's mostly "soft" swelling, I'm wondering if it might be soft tissue inflammation. We're going to try flushing with just saline and daily bandage changes for a few days and see where we're at. I'm also going to look into maybe an antibiotic. Or possibly sugardine. Off to peruse the emergency, diseases, and cures for bumblefoot threads

It might need antibiotics at this point but I used prid in the beginning stage of bumblefoot and it worked pretty well at pulling out the plug. Not sure if it will work for you in this case since she's so swollen. Good luck!

Poor Rose seems to have stalled on her bumblefoot infection 🫤 There's so much swelling still, I feel like there's gotta be infection that won't come out through the hole in the bottom of her foot. Seriously considering taking a scalpel blade to it at this point.
