No, I'm sorry I explained wrong. The chicks were in the proper position (beak under wing) but instead of the beak pointing towards the lowest point of the air cell (where they like to pip), the body and beak were turned 180 degrees around so it couldn't have piped into the air cell. There was no external pip on the back of the egg. Didn't think to try to look for an internal pip but probably wouldn't have seen one anyways, I guess.
