Air Fresheners- yea or nah?

I love them... I am addicted to Yankee Candles and Glade Plug-Ins. I use Plug-Ins in my classroom to cut down on the smell of unwashed adolescent male (yuck). I have one regular sub who takes them down when she comes because strong scents like Plug-Ins bother her, but I don't mind (because I'm not there when she is).

wow. glad plug ins in the classroom? you might want to consider doing a little research into what they have in them before you expose the kids to them - as they don't have much of a choice.

I cant go into several places in the mall cause of the scents. All those young, hot clothing stores spray their perfumes all over their clothes. I get a headache being in there for 5 minutes. DD got a job last summer at Ab and Finch but quit after a week cause the smell gave her maigranes.

yeah I agree... please be careful what you are exposing other peoples children to please dont take this the wrong way... The chicken lady... I am trying to think of a way to word it so that is does not come across as being witchy with a capital B.... but if the smell of teens bother you and I agree with you they stink... maybe teach younger kids

DS got sent home from school last year because he has on Axe deodorant and it was to "strong" for the teacher.

I dont do scents because it gives me a headache and strangely enough I start to "taste" the smell

At home I use all natural. My parents even make all the soaps and lotions I use. They started that because of my moms allergies.

My problem is at work. About a year ago they put up those oil wicking air fresheners in the locker and bathrooms. I complained and was told they would work with me if I could get a drs note. The funny thing was I asked them for the MSDS sheet on them so I could get a dr note and it took them 2 months to get it. And they would not take the air fresheners down in the mean time. So I got use to wearing a mask to go to the bathroom or change my clothes and deciided not to go through the trouble of going to a doctor for a note.

My problem is now they have put them in the cooler office. They put one in each supervisors office that connects to the cooler office and at least 1 or 2 in the cooler office. This total area is only about 200 sq feet. Well I complained they took down the one in the cooler office and added it to the supervisors office. So there are still 3-4 air fresheners in less than 200 sq ft. Even with a mask on I could smell the fragrance. I refuse to go in there even though I am supposed to for our daily meeting. I called my dr and asked if he would write me a note. I haven't heard back yet.

I figure once I get the note I will ask them to take all of them down. If they refuse I will call our parent company and ask them to have them taken down. I don't know what to do if they refuse aside from threatening to get a lawyer.

5 minutes in that room and my head is swimming for 4 hours. I feel like I'm drunk or high and I am supposed to drive a fork lift. Which is not safe.

On top of that we are trying to conceive and I worry about what it will do to an unborn child.

Any one got some suggestions?

I have to have fresh cut flowers all the time in my house. It makes the house smell SO good! I do have air fresheners that I use occasionally but you can't beat that fresh flower smell....And when the Wisteria is blooming...OH MY, my house smells like heaven!!!

Even though we don't drink much coffee, I always boil some on the stove to give my house a coffee smell...I love the smell of coffee

Im curious about how your work would handle it if the next resident to move in was supersensitive to colognes/perfumes? Could they make it a policy? They probably make no cats and no dogs a policy and this would be right along those lines...

I know that when I left our local Head Start program I had been badgering them to develop a no-scent policy for teaching staff. Imagine 4 woman in a small space all decked out in 4 different scents. Yuck!

My dad, bless him, when I come home on weekends and find he has laundered my clothes that weren't dirty...smell awful. He has cleaned them using the detergent and everything, but they smell like something has DIED in them.

So I take them to my apartment and clean them. Just smells awful.

My apartment smells like fresh apple pies thanks to the Glade Oil Plug-ins...my bathroom smells like French Vanilla. LOVE them.
