Im curious about how your work would handle it if the next resident to move in was supersensitive to colognes/perfumes? Could they make it a policy? They probably make no cats and no dogs a policy and this would be right along those lines...

I know that when I left our local Head Start program I had been badgering them to develop a no-scent policy for teaching staff. Imagine 4 woman in a small space all decked out in 4 different scents. Yuck!

we have a woman who is allergic to everything.. the admin say that its just like an apartment building, you cant force your neighbor to do anything

i know I would not spend $4,000 a month to live there

I love air freshners

I have 4 dogs and chickens in my bedroom. I can't sleep in a dirty room and if I can smell the chickens when it's time to go to bed I have to clean the brooder and vacuum. It's just me. My mom hates them. I use glade plugins and the little air puff thing that goes off every 36 minutes. I atleast make sure the scents match. My dad has cinnamon puff things, papaya mango plug ins and uses fresh breeze febreeze. That's just confusing.

If people pass wind, it is considered disgusting ,and who would argue with that,

but it is not a health hazard. Chemical concoctions on the other hand can be and often are health hazards that can and do cause, unplesant and dangerous reactions.
IMHO what people do in their own homes is their business, but in public places there should be rules to prevent them harming others.
Yes I take it personally as I get itchy eyes and throat,a headache and irritable.

The kids themselves requested having them in the room.

If someone complained, I'd remove them. So far, I've never had a problem; other teachers in my building use them, too. I'm pretty sure they're safer than the super-antibacterial-chemical deodorizer spray things that the janitors use in the bathrooms and locker rooms. I like the comments I get when parents visit my room and say how nice it looks and how fresh it smells, too.

We have teachers at our school that on the first day ask flat out are there any air freshners that bother you, don't like ect ect. There are some funky smelling kids at our school and we are all VERY greatful for the air fresheners. The plug ins aren't right by us, usually behind the teachers desk. If it gets strong on a hot day, they will unplug it.
