Looking for best bang for the buck air rifle for pests. needs to be accurate and deadly to fox/racoon and smaller. Looking for people who have experiance so I am not just going after anonymous online reviews. Thanks ahead of time.

I suggest a .22 rifle, any old cheapo used single shot will work fine for utilitarian farm work. Use CB Longs, or CB Shorts, they're quiet. You can use a pellet gun for stuff like starlings and rats/mice, but anything like a possum or a coon, takes a standard .22 hollow point. CB shorts/longs are OK for larger rats and maybe fox, coons and possums are tough.

has to be an air rifle. I can not fire a .22 in my area. silent is the key. I would use a bow, but that is not as practical. On another thread a man posted a fox he killed with an air rifle. That is what sparked my interest.

A lot of the newer break barell air rifles are very loud. as loud as a 22 rifle. The gamo whisper is fairly quiet. They have several models of the whisper but they all shoot about 1200 fps. which is about double the power of most bb guns and the gamo 177 pellets are awesome for varmit shooting. Check out academy sports, walmart or any sports store.

I've had excellent success with the Remington AirMaster 77. It's a pump (ten) air rifle. Kits (includes scope and eye protection) cost under $100 on Amazon.com, and also available at some Walmarts. I recommend a better scope, but not necessary and can be purchased later. They shoot a .177 pellet at 725 fps. An easy kill for squirrels and rabbits. It will kill a fox/raccoon/possum with a well placed shot to the head. I also recommend GAMO .177 Rocket Pellets for accuracy & penetration or GAMO 250 Master Pt. Pellets .177. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention, I went with this particular model because I live in the city and a .22 rifle was not only loud, but illegal.

don't know the brand,"it's out by the coop". it was the $45 dollar, ten pump, bb or pellet from wal mart....... so far it's dispatched 1 coon... it took a few shots.... and theres a possum somewhere with a bb in him, but he hasn't been seen in 6 months.... it's acurate at 50-100 ft....

You are not going to kill a large coon with a cheap .22 pellet gun. Unless it is a baby.

A .22 short sounds the same as the higher powered RWS pellet guns.

I wouldn't shoot a coon with nothing less than a... Sheridan, Benjamin, RWS . .22 at 900FPS,
Although I have never killed one with a single shot with my RWS #48.
I like a .22 short hollow point. Or my 12 ga.

Good Luck
