air sac and difference in eggs - need suggestings

Last night I candled my eggs because my daughter begged me to since she was leaving for 4-H camp.

I have some silkie eggs, RIR and White Leghorn eggs.

There was a drastic difference in the air sac between the RIR eggs and silkie eggs. The air sac was very large in the silkie and just about correct in the RIR.

You could see the chick moving as much in the RIR as well in the silkie.

I'm keeping the temp at 99.5 sometimes it drops less and the humidity is 35-45%

Any suggestions?

Were the eggs set at the same time. Sometimes bantam chickens will develop a bit faster but not radically. If set at the same time they should be around the same. Did you take the eggs directly off the nest before setting them? What day are you on now? More info would be helpful to figure out what is going on.

The silkie eggs were ordered. I ordered some from Napontails (JJ) and I ordered some from Eggbid. The ones from JJ have so far been all viable and the ones from Eggbid have not, they are the ones that look different the most. I marked which were which so I would know. Now the RIR and the White Leghorn are fresh from the nest.

I thought since I had the incubator going I would just fill it up with fresh eggs.

I am on day 10.

The only egg I discarded last night was one of the ones from eggbid and it looked like it had quit developing around day 6.

A larger than normal air cell usually means that the humidity is to low and to much moisture loss has occured. With the eggs being in the same incubator it is strange that development is not the same on all of them. The only thing I can think of is that the ones from your nest had been there and were warmer when set and had begun developing a bit earlier. It still should not make much difference unless they were there all day then placed in the incubator.

I just had a hatch that is coming out staggered and I marked all the eggs under my broody on the 28th, one hatched on day 17 so obviously I did not have the date correct or I had not gotten the eggs from under the broody as promptly as I thought I did. I collected the eggs and kept them untill I had 4 and set them all the same day to avoid a staggered hatch. It turns out It is staggered anyway, a second one hatched this morning on day 18 and I have a third that looks ready but has not pipped.

Just compare the air cell on the days to the diagram referred to in this post and make notes to see how they develop. It sound like you are doing everything right.
