Airlines and carry-on eggs

Even if you could get them on to the plane somehow, wouldnt the xray damage the cells within the egg? Be it carryon or checked baggage--they all get xrayed.

I think mail is going to be your best bet.

I am in Alaska and my daughter worked here for TSA and is currently working for TSA in Calif and she will ask for more details at work. She said that the eggs should be considered as live animals and should go through without the x-ray. She did say every airport is different. Will update as I get more info. I am planning on her flying some eggs to me on Feb 1st so we will know for sure.

yes they do i took 3dz to Philadelphia this summer and put them in a cooler box with a big red sign that side live hatch able eggs on it but you have to check it belly of the plane

they cant x-ray them because they are considered live

My mom hand carried two dozen from Michigan on New Year's Eve, out of a small airport. She went to the airport the day before her flight and asked, they told her no problem, but they might have to crack one. They did not go through the x-ray process, they did not crack any eggs. They came through fine, and in a few days I'll tell you how many are on the road to hatching!

Is the belly of the plane pressurized? How did your egg hatch out? How long was your flight and did you have to change planes? I was thinking about chsning pressure a couple of times and rough handling on the Tarmac.

I've got a cousin that lives in England most of the year, but she comes home often. I've been trying to get her to bring me some coronation sussex eggs LOL!!!!

That sure makes me feel safe about flying, allowing packages that aren't x-rayed or closely inspected on the plane

I'd hope security would come before someone 'needing' to fly chicken eggs. I'm surprised the USDA aren't involved when trying to import to some states either.

Bringing eggs from another country without going through the USDA is big no-no. They take it very seriously, as much as if you were importing any other species without inspection/declaration.

ETA It's probably a lot easier to just mail them and pay the extra $13 for special handling.
