Alabama Bantam Club Young Bird Show/Picnic/Work Day Sept. 11

Well, we went to this show, it was our first Chicken Show. We had a GREAT time, and met some really nice folks . . . Claudia, you were SO helpful, as were a number of friendly folks! I was invited to have a burger and some really fine baked beans, they had a little "kick" to'em too, they were some of the best I've had, whoever made them.

We really enjoyed all we learned and all we saw. We even bought some Lemon Blue Modern Game Bantams from Brent, for no other reason than they were just too cool! We wish now we would have brought a few of our young silkies to the show. We were reluctant to do so, as many horse shows are "less than friendly" for newbies without a clue how things work. We needn't have feared that, ya'll were quite the hosts, really. Thanks for putting us at ease.

I do have one complaint though: Ya'll didn't tell me it was a work day! I would have gladly pitched in had I known. I suppose the members working should have been a clue, in hindsight, but it went right over my head, sorry!

We really look forward to the October Show. And thanks again to all ya'll who were so helpful and informative.

If you didn't make it to the show, you missed some good food. The beans were good I got seconds or was it thirds? Claudia's pickle's the best I ever tasted, wish those were on the shelves at Winn-Dixie.

Had a great time so good to see everyone. This club does have a wonderful group of people, everyone is very helpful and friendly for sure.
Thanks for having us up to show, For those that didn't go, Grand Champion of show was a white silkie cockerl, He is owned by me, I could not believe he beat out marty's cochin's, for best featherleg, I was on cloud nine, when that happened. I don't remember everthing, so maybe Claudia will chime in with update. I know Marty got 4th best in show with a cochin, Another silkie of mine was 5th best of show. My silver laced won best large fowl and reserve largefowl. I don't know what got 2nd and 3rd. I was so excited I forgot to look, sorry.

It was a great a time. Can't wait till october show. Thanks again for everthing. Claudia don't forget my pickle order. HMMM HMMM

Oh that was your Silkie. A very nice bird! We were asking the Judge a few questions, and he told us that if we wanted to see what a good Silkie is supposed to look like, we should look at that bird, because it's a nice a silkie as there is. That's a pretty high compliment, particularly from a judge. Great Job.

We're still kinda weak (clueless) on prepping a bird for show. How did you groom that tail? I was really impressed by it's tail.

Woodcut..... you are soooo right about Tony's bird!!! And the white pullet was a dream too!! Congratulations on your Show Champion win! Your white Silkies have really come along Tony. GREAT JOB!!!

I'll have to get the clerk sheets out, I'll do that later today, but I remember that Brent's splash Old English got Reserve of Show. From there it all got fuzzy!!

I have to say, we do try to show our Southern hospitatality to make everyone feel welcomed and no one goes home empty handed. Share the chicken love!!! Speaking of which, Woodcut...those Moderns are the funniest birds I own, and are all about the treats! Get you some Gainsburger dogfood and offer it to them as a treat. Make them come to the side of the pen/cage and reach up for the treat just to the point of almost jumping ....that is how the breeders train them to get the attention of the judges. I have a trio of lemon-blues also! Fun birds!!

OH, child!! Those beans were from Ann, the girl is quite a cook!

Goodness, I can hardly wait till Oct. show.

THAT IS A SIGHT RIGHT THERE, IS THE CAMERA STILL WORK LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a great time that is for sure, wishmy back had not been hurting so bad and could have helped more.
Thanks for everything, i still can't believe I beat those old hatchery cochins.
Just wash and clean them up on the tails, the rest is just breed selection.
Hope tosee everyone in October, i will try to bring a few more silkies, maybe some more of my whites and older blue hens.

I'm not going to make it... but, I can give you the low down on who I know is coming. Of the Silkie breeders expect to see Jaynie and Ann there for sure. As of Sunday, Tanya was not sure if she would make it or not.

I'm off for some R and R!!
