ALABAMA!!

Happy Saturday all. Isn't the weather nice. I am enjoying being outside again. Practically starting over with my chickens as I was letting them free range and looked out my window and three of my dogs were chasing them. out of my 9 I only had one survive. She is not the friendlist one and it has taken days for her to even walk near me or not run when I come near her. On a positive note, she just started laying within the past two weeks and is still laying. I didn't like seeing her walking around lonely so I got a few bantams to run around with her, one roo and two pullets. Clipped everyone's wings and put them together in the little pen. I've ordered some new chicks from McMurray. It's my first time ordering and I have read the good and bad but we'll see what I get. It's the "special assortment" and I realive I may get a few roosters, but I hope to have some hens as well. I added to the order 4 Silver Laced Wyandotte girls and 4 Buff Orpington girls. I think they are pretty and I like a good layer and a good meat chicken that is far and fluffy. I have not had these two kind before but I read a lot of good things about them. And I am really excited about my special assortment. I can't wait to see what they turn out to be.

When I do get the sex and all determined, if want to keep two roosters will I need to seperate them with their hens into two different coops? Or will they just decide what hens they want in their harem and do it naturally?

I hope to post some pictures of the new bantams soon so you all can tell me what breed they are.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your loss... but congrats on the new birds. You may not get show quality, but I expect that you will really be happy with them.

As long as you have at least 8 hens to each rooster, and plenty of room for them to spread out, you should be fine. (In my personal experience.)
