Does anyone have any large fowl hatching eggs for sale? I haven't quite decided what breeds I want to add to my flock but I know I want them to be local. Shipping is too rough. I want something a little different and preferably non hatchery stock. Just curious what's out there. Thanks.

I can get you Jersey Giant eggs locally. Blacks blues and splash. Mine are all penned together untill spring so all I will have is barnyard mutts (all from good layer stock). I do have someone out in boaz I was getting rir's from but he only has 4 hens. As of now thats what I know is available.

Every Sat. Here in the Millbrook area is a chicken auction. Not sure how far you are from here but you might find some eggs there.

You know chicken math, you can always make room They are all intermixed so you really wont know whats what till they hatch tho lol. I can get them almost anytime.

There was a sharp rise statewide after Katrina, but the bigger city's always had a high-ish crime rate. Ive been here since 04, moved around the state quite a bit. The more rural you get the less crime there is. (my thinking is even the crooks know country folk are armed and in this state we aint afraid to drop you on the lawn like a bad habit).

Ya learn how to shoot early too.... My 11 year old nephew pulled a gun on a drunk guy on their front porch at 3 a.m. trying to come in and use their phone. It was just him, his baby brother and mom. Ran the guy off while his mom called the sheriff's dpt. I have no doubt that he'd have shot him too, if he'd come on in the house. Ya gotta learn to fend for yourself out here. Nobody else around to do it!

The law has changed in NY where I'm from and we did have a woman shoot and kill a guy who busted in. She wasn't charged. The guy was mentally ill, but dangerous just the same.

My main breeds are Delaware my line, BR's Kathinmo 's line and Lav orps out of PA and some Birchen Marans from NC. (not a good line) Good layers but the hens aren't marked well. I do have some CR's from GA but they've yet to lay as far as I know.

I've only shipped eggs once but they did fine. I've also received the CR's shipped and they did good.

Well they recently had a shooting here in the near neighborhood. Guy got drunk and walked into the wrong house. The lady shot him, but good for him her bullets were old and they didn't do any major damage.

Rancher, where's the crime? That was a mistake on his part (in order to be burglary, he would have to have intent to commit a crime,) at worse, he was tresspassing or publicly intoxicated. She was defending herself on her property, which she can do legally if she is in fear for her life.

I think that was just a tragic accident, not a crime.

Yes a very foolish mistake.

I didn't say it was a crime per se. However trespassing is a crime isn't it? Public intoxication is too isn't it. I wasn't forming an OP on the incident. However I've been around plenty of drunks and she was definitely within her rights to shoot if he was in her house.

Personally I might have given him till the count of three to get out. Then anything is possible.

At the meeting is was disclosed by the officers that there was another incident where someone came into a house not knowing anyone was home. I lock the doors even if I'm home.

I was not intending to correct you, I apoligize if you were offended.

My comment was directed to your mention of the crime rate being high. Yes, criminal tresspass is a crime (as is public intoxication) but those misdemeanors are not usually given too much weight when crime rates are discussed. The crime rate stats are usually just referencing felonies.

We're good.

I don't follow crime stats. Only because my family is concerned and there has been a rash in this area that I mentioned it. We certainly have our share of crime in the north too.

I'm struggling with their transfer cuz I love Alabama and of course it's weather.

They're selling the house but even so I wouldn't want to be where I can't have chickens and some land for a garden.

My DS want's to rent it but DIL is against it and I agree with her.

I hope this move is good for his career. Strangely enough they will be closer to us but the air fare is nearly twice as much.

I'd need a word from the Lord before I could pack up and move here though.
