I have lots of pictures of the journey but uploaded them all at once. The brooder box/future quarantine box is almost finished just have to put the wire over the top but we have at least a couple of weeks

It is 5x4x1 &1/2 feet should comfortable hold 15 chicks or 3 hens for quarantine.

I went to TSC today, of course I had to ask when the chicks are coming in, since I saw the empty pens sitting there, ready to go. The girls said she -thinks- they will get them in next week. I'm sure they are, they were still rearranging the displays around it.

Here's to hoping they'll have some good ones.

I wanted to get the food, waterer, bedding and all that goodness, but dear fiance said I can get that when we get the chicks. Yeeeaaahh. I'm going back tomorrow I am not gonna set up their brooder when they come home with me, they need to go in and de-stress not be messed with!

I am way too excited. I hope it wont be disappointing....

I got the heat lamp and the brooder, still need everything else. I don't like waiting til the last minute. I would be horrified to find they're out of something like food or bedding when I go to get chicks and then not able to get them :/

My tsc is getting them tomorrow of course the first lady I asked what breeds they were getting, well you don't wanna even know her answer but a couple of people later and a pamplet later here are the breeds they are supposed to be getting. You have to buy a minimum of 6

They also have an order sheet but you have to get a minimum 25

From what I could see they would have a bin with assorted pullets, a bin with straight run bantams, a bin with ducks, a bin with red pullets, another bin with straight run surprise breed (changes each week).

Of course pullet bins do not mean much with TSC, as I have heard stories of folks getting multiple roos.. same with their "ameraucana", I think Easter Egger desn't sound fancy enough

I'm hoping the different breed bin doesn't sell out instantly. Last year they had ducks and a bin of what looked to be EE's, all the exact same feather pattern. Really dull, if you like some variety. Maybe I was just late at the time. I can't remember.. back then I didn't even imagine I could actually have chickens in a suburb.

I really hope they will let me pick my own.. but I am not sure they will. I want to check them out, get my hands on them.. check legs, butts and wings...

Did you get all of your supplies already? If not, pile it all in one place near the bins and start picking your chicks. If they don't let you pick your own, don't buy them, or anything else. You pick your own tomatoes, you pick your own shoes, you should pick your own chicks. If they insist on you not touching them, ask the clerk to turn them over to check them out. They should have no objection to that.

That is a good idea. I always hated buying fish at the petstore for that reason. Those high schoolers generally can't catch a fish without riling the whole tank up and then you have to direct them which one you want... Just gimme the net darnit. Pro at work!

I think I may have to go several times, if they have different ones every week. Don't really like the idea of the age differences, but a week may not matter TOO much.

Not sure what you are asking. Is there a way to tell EE from other chicks or EE chicks from Ameraucana chicks. If it is the latter just assume if they are at TSC they are EE. I currently know of no large commercial breeder selling true ameraucana. I would encourage anyone to seek out a reputable breeder no matter what type of chick you are looking for.

They are hatchery stock, so I would imagine they will be EEs. Though, I wonder how they will spell it?
