Most of them have pea combs and aside from the roo I only have 2 hens with a straight comb. They mostly lay very light cream colored eggs, but the occasional white hen always lays white eggs. They're kind of strange.

Cool. I guess the EE can show up anywhere? I love the EE's of course. But those (your's) are very interesting birds. Thanks a bunch!

You better stop. . .me! I want to go at it again, 'bating.
Right now, though, I round the clock with 13 EE's, at 3 weeks old with cocci. OMG, my first. Waited 2 years for a hen to go broody, nada. Got 'bator for B'day in March, 1st time around for this baby chick thing. SSooooo fun. Got 12 healthy 6 week old EE's outside in new pen for them.

But, 2 hens went broody 3 weeks after I set eggs. OK, the more the merrier! Yoooohoo! Then, you know how this weather has been. Lost a few of the peepers at 2 weeks, puzzled.

4 days later, cocci! Yikes, again, 1st time.

Started treating asap with Sulmet, cause all I had on hand. Switched to Corid. Much better and chicks are rebounding. Have 13 being treated, 4 of them, responding slowly.

Giving the 4, fluids by hand every couple of hours around the clock. Whew. They will stay in the 1/2 bath we have on our back porch for a few weeks until I know they have recovered and have some immunity.

So, I must behave, heehee
Please don't think me ignorant, but what do you do with quail?

We see some in the wild on occasion. Do you eat them, their eggs? The eggs are really small. How would you prepare the eggs in dishes? Do you sell them for hunt camps? Just full of questions! Thanks again.

Thank you chirpingcricket! Later on this summer I may try to go to a couple of auctions and see what they have either in Millbrook or in Clanton. If I can sell my EE roos then my DH would let me get some hen's if I can find any pretty one's. I did want to keep a couple of my EE roos. Two of them at least will be black and white so if I can find a few pretty hens I will be happy! I am going to keep my brown EE hens! lol I do love them already! I am just amazed they change so much and no way of knowing what they will turn out to be?

Especially the bobwhites. They also have a very soothing call and have called a wild covey into my yard where I never had quail before.
The eggs are very small and somewhat hard to peel. They are almost impossible to crack to use raw. I have boiled them and made quail stuffed eggs. I may try pickled quail eggs this year.

Pickled quail eggs are actually pretty good. They mostly just taste like vinegar.

New member here from Mobile...proud owner of 5 RIR, 1 Buff orpington, 3 barred rocks, 2 ameracaunas, 1 delaware, 1 silkie, 1 black jersey giant, 1 blue jersey giant, 1 blue orpington, 1 australorp. All are chicks except the barred rocks, buff orpington, and 2 RIR. I have been trolling around the site for about a year and finally decided i needed to join. Looking forward to the giving and receiving of advice.

P.S. no medical problems with the chickens but i was interested in good preventative maintenance medication for the girls as well as where to get it.
