Welcome to all the newbies! I'm sorry I have missed greeting you each personally, but there have just been so many! I am glad there are so many, but whew!
Casio - look into building an open front, covered coop. I have been thinking about and researching this and my next one will be like the early ones and the demensions will be determined by materials. I'm thinking a roof sloped front to back, the depth decided by the length of the steel roofing (no cutting) with an overhang on the front. The back will have a gutter and solid wall that faces north. Half the sides and all the front will be wire. I'm thinking roughly 10 x 24 would be good. I'll see if I can't find a pic......

in researching all the coop designs, I do believe the 3 sided one fits our weather the best and will head that direction when we start to build. We have an exaisiting metal frame carport that I'm hoping to turn into a chicken mansion... The issue I'm running into now though is that it's set in concrete and the side that I'd like to do the run on is the north side, so I can't leave that side open. Would it be pointless to have a 3 sided coop with a run to the north? I was looking at leaving the east or south side open. Granted it would be framed out and have hardware cloth on that side, the west side is closest to the house, so I'd put the nesting boxes on that end and the person door on the east or south end.
