ALABAMA!!

Hey everyone! Central AL here.
I've looked around for a few days but have finally joined BYC today :) I don't currently have any chickens, or a coop, but I hope to remedy the coop part soon in time for some spring chickens! I'm hoping to get some local rather than mail order. I haven't settled on what breeds I want yet but they will mostly be for eggs and I want a nice/docile breed because I have small children. We have a shed the previous owner built himself over a decade ago that I might make into a coop with a run on the back.
I have Black Copper Marans (I also have a splash rooster so I can hatch blue copper Marans), Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, Langshans, Barnevelders, Sulmtalers, Bielfelders, Silkies and barnyard mix (Barnyard has all of these and Light Brahma, Buff Orpington, Lavender Orpington, Large Fowl Cochin, Isbar, Bresse, Birchen Marans, 2 Guineas and a Red Bourbon turkey). They are all together right now. But if someone wanted eggs or chicks, I would seperate them for a few weeks first. The BCM and EE are laying now. The Legbars and Langshans, maybe another month or two, the rest maybe April. They are from good breeders but I am calling them pet quality. They may hatch much better quality (Sulmaters, Bielfelders, Barnevelders and some Marans are from Greenfire) but I don't want to make any promises. I love my chickens. They are pets to me. I am not planning to turn it into serious income or a job but I know how hard it is to find some breeds around here. I will sell eggs or chicks or trade. You can come see what I have and their temperament. Or if you just wanted to talk about chickens. Hatching your own is so much more fun. You can build your own incubator.

I'm interested!

At the very earliest it would be the weekend before I could get there. I live in Enterprise. so, that's a good three hour drive for me.

WOW, you're just the next town over.

I went to Tractor Supply first but you have to buy a minimum of 6 at a time. They had mixed them all together and had no idea what breeds they had. Then I saw all of the boxes full of dead chicks and ducks. They didn't care. Left the few live ones in with the dead ones because they didn't feel like dealing with it.

I think it really depends per store. I went to a different TSC and wasn't impressed. Ours is pretty good. They keep the chicks seperated.. although they are entirely clueless as to what they're selling

Lovely flock you've got. Love all the colors, in birds as well as eggs.
