ALABAMA!!

Thanks for the input! Not sure if we want to do chicks again or just get pullets. I'm definitely leaning towards EEs though :) Are they nice birds? Are they flighty? Our chickens stay in a run with a coop and free range in a portable run or if we are outside with them. We live in an area where the can't roam too much.

Mine are sweet. Some jump in my lap for cuddles. 2 jumped up and I was trying to take a picture. See that bottom blur. That is the 3rd. 2 are EEs and the other is a Buff Orpington.

Pullets mean eggs quicker. But slower to bond. Chicks take longer.. but you get to bond. Chicks means possible rooster.... There's pros and cons both ways.

I like getting chicks because it's easier to quarantine chicks (they're in a brooder anyway). And they're cheaper.... and the kids love getting babies.

You're only getting two though... running a heatlamp for two chicks may be a little silly. Harder to keep warm.

I have the craziest chicks in the brooders right now. There are three brooders full (should be two, but the weather won't cooperate) and the two youngest groups, 12 days and 20 days, will try their best to cram themselves into my hand whenever I reach into the brooder. It makes it difficult to feed and water whe there are chicks getting stuck between my fingers and between the containers and my hand, not to mention laughing my head off!

I sent that picture to my husband telling about how they jumped on your lap and he said "They do that!? There won't be a chicken on MY lap."

Mine orpingtons were very friendly like dogs. They would come when I called. Sit on my lap and get petted. I've even taught them several tricks using the clicker. What drove me mad about those chicken is when I let my dogs go outside to potty. When they come in the house the chicken would try to come in with them. Had to kick the chickens out all the time.
