ALABAMA!!

Thank you for clarifying that! Seems their shipping rates are more reasonable than other places...... I may have to bite the bullet. Ofcourse I'm one of those folks that likes to buy one of everything

They're adorable.
Haha! I had a hard time picking also. I wanted to add some Silkies and like the way Speckled Sussex, Golden and Silver Laced Wyandottes look.. makes me think of pokemon or something.. instead of 'gotta catchem all" it's "gotta have em all"

I showed my dad how I wanted to use half of my shed for them and he looked at me like I was crazy that I didn't need that much room for 12 chickens... What I didn't tell him or my husband was that I doubt it actually stays at 12 chickens!

YES! I felt the same way about them. I love things like Pokemon (actually used to play another game that is similar, but you can breed between all the different monsters to make new ones.......

It's an addiction.. isn't it?).

Last year I got two of everything they carried at Tractor Supply, went back every week to see if they had anything new. I will sell a few of my pullets though, I don't want the flock to get too big.. and it'll be easier to tell them apart when I have one of everything

I don't think they track that sort of thing. We may be able to help figure it out! I love a good mystery. What did you order?
I ordered 6 Ameraucanas (from what I read IDEAL's Ameracaunas are really EE's and that's fine with me) 2 Buffed Orpingtons (the one hubby picked out) 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 Black Australorpes. The 4 black ones are easy to pick out. The ones with spots on their head is the Barred Rocks and the ones with black all over and white cream bellies is the Black Australorpes. 4 of my EE's are chipmunk, one is same coloring just no lines on it.. I'm calling her smudge for now lol and the last EE is a yellow color with cream stripes on her back and white tips on her wings.. at least I think that's it. That leaves 4 reddish, 2 buff which I think may be my Buff Orpingtons and 2 cream colored ones.
Does that sound right so far?

hm do yo remember what game that was? I played Pokemon on Gamboy Color and had that Catz and Dogz game on PC and you could breed different ones together. I always had so much fun waiting to see different combinations. The day my chicks were shipped I got an email from IDEAL about a sorted bantam special.. I was seriously tempted.. they were min of 25 for $1.10 each! lol... that right there is now I know I need to make at least half my shed their coop.

Considering they charge for every extra breed, it makes most sense they tossed in 6 of the same thing... so I'm thinking all the reddish ones are production reds (hatchery RIR.. same difference), with the cream/yellow ones being your buffs. As they say, peanuts are males... guess you got you some chicken dinner.

It's called Dragon warrior monsters, there's a I and a II. Both are for Gameboy color.... Apparently they also made a remake for the 3DS, but I don't own it. It's fun.. you take a male and a female to the match maker and they create an egg, parents are set free afterward, so you have to think before you have them mate.

I don't need 25 chicks, but I could see the temptation
lol.png
Heck, you could resell them for $3 a piece on Craigslist.

Yes I plan on eating them... I will just have to see how the butchering goes though. My husband is already squeamish on cooking chicken fully so if we do eat one I can't tell him it wasn't from the supermarket or he probably wouldn't touch it.

I've never heard of that game. I might have to look in to it. I still have my GBC and one of my kids also has a 3DS.

I know that was part of the temptation! I could find the silkies my kids begged for (hopefully) and sell the rest lol. I couldn't justify it with chicks already OTW though and my husband would kill me lol

As long as you know from the start what your plans are, it makes it much easier. Gotta not get attached to them. If they're production reds, that may be easier anyway... the males are usually annoying
lol.png
I find dispatching an annoying roo SO much easier. Hah, I find eating my own roos easier than grocery store chicken... I know mine are healthy and not full of who-knows-what. Yuck. My step-son asks everytime I cook chicken "Is that our rooster?" No baby, the rooster actually went to live with someone (the truth!).... He doesn't believe me though. He still eats it, even though he thinks I made his bird disappear.

I want to get a few meaties from Tractor Supply this year. They had cornish X last year for like $1.99

I'm really close to actually getting some babies... I'm in touch with a local breeder, just placed my tentative order. Woohoo. Hoping to get a cream legbar pullet, two blue marans, two blue laced red wyandottes, two gold laced, two silver laced... two barred rocks.... and two lavender orps. Told her that if she has easter eggers or ameraucana I'll take some of those too.

They're all straightrun..... hope to God I get some girls!

I thought about some Cornish X but I figured I'd take this one step at a time and get used to the whole process of chickens in general first. I want some experience under my belt before committing to processing that many. I haven't read much on them but do people usually mix the meaties with their flock? I thought they eat a different food mix and aren't as good at foraging. Oooh nice list GL on getting more girls out of the mix! I didn't want to chance it for initial flock so I could get some eggs going.

Oh and my kids this morning said if there's 12 chickens they get 3 each, they get to name them, and I don't get any. I told them if I couldn't have any and it was their chickens... then they had to clean up after them LOL Then my eldest said.. well you can have my chickens then and I'll just wait for some silkies. haha!
