ALABAMA!!

Tomtomm, I'm not sure who you have, or if you have, cell phone service, but we have a Jet Pack from Verizon Wireless that we get our internet through since we are so far out in the country that cable hasn't made it to us yet and AT&T, well, they are just worthless. We had them for internet when we first moved and it was down more than it worked (apparently we are at the very end of their pipeline so to speak) and their customer service is the absolute worst so we told them to take a hike. The Jet Pack is great. It's about the size of an old fashioned pager and just plugs into a wall outlet for power. It's also portable so we can take it on vacation with us in the car and be online the entire time, as long as there is a cell signal. Hubby loved that during our drive down to Orlando for vacation last year - he had his laptop out and going almost the entire time.

Hi

I'm in Haleyville. Moved here 6 months ago from New Jersey. We have 6 children, 8 chickens (2 Dominique's, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 buff Orpington, and 4 gold laced wyandotties) and a rooster (Dominique)

, plus 4 goats, and 3 dogs.
That's awesome! I am new on here too, we don't have quite the set-up you do, but are hopeful to be there in a few years!! Right now it's just me and the hubby... we are trying to find Chickens this weekend ( : we want around five... we don't have any dogs (landlord) but we want goats and kids one day!
Welcome to the crew!

I recall looking at that many moons ago.. but I was married to an avid gamer at the time and I think they had a limit on usage or something. Now we use far less bandwidth and data, so it may be a good idea to look into again.

Our cell phone contract ends in October and I want to go back to Verizon anyway... I was with them in the past, but left to join hubbies plan. His plan is evil...EVIL. He doesn't have reception at home half the time... we can look out the window and practically SEE their tower. WTH? We're in the center of Montevallo, not out in the sticks!

Verizon rocks... I could go into the walk-in coolers at work and not lose a call

now that's signal strength. Hubby calls me on his way home from work and we lose connection 2-3 times every time. T-mobile... that's kind of sad

Oh, yes, T-Mobile is pretty much a joke as far as coverage goes for just about the entire state of Alabama. Verizon has the best and strongest coverage hands down. In the building where I work, those of us who have Verizon are the only ones who can make or receive cell calls inside the building. It's funny to walk along the front hallway where the windows are and see people standing all along the hall talking on their phones because right up next to the windows is the only place they can get a signal.

Hey guys I'm from Oneonta (Blount County). My mother & I are fixing to start raising chickens and we're so excited & so nervous. Right now we're trying to decide if getting baby chicks & older chickens at the same time is a good idea. We're thinking that if we integrate slowly then things'll be ok. What do you guys think? We're leaning towards sex links for the babies & possibly red stars for the older girls but what are your guys' suggestions for good egg layers, friendly & more accepting of other breeds?

Is anyone looking for a flock rooster? I have 2 white and 2 splash Langshans, 6 months. They came from plum colored eggs that I bought from Judy Gaines. I have never heard the Langshans crow. Super sweet and really big.
2 Greenfire Black French Copper Marans, 4 months. These were chicks directly from Greenfire that I raised. I have way too many roosters. I love them all but I can't keep feeding all of them. PM if interested or have any questions. These are not the best pictures. I can take more if you are interested. I am in Cottondale but I can meet. I love these guys and will travel bit to make sure they get a good home. They all get a long if you want more than one. They are all together now with ll of the hens. No problems accept the guineas pull out their tail feathers sometimes.

There's a handful of breeders in Blount county.. so you're in luck. I see them offering birds on Facebook all the time. Chicks and adults.

I'm partial to white rocks, good tempers, good production. Don't like production reds/Rhode Island reds (the non-heritage kind), they're yappy and bottomless pits. Australorps are good middle-of-the-road in temper and production.

I love getting chicks, because they're cheap. You get to bond with them... they get to bond with you. And right now with chick days going on at Tractor Supply they're easy to get. You can get a mixed flock and see what you like, and then get more of those later on.

I'd love me a non-crowing boy, but with my luck he'd learn to crow by next week
