OK this may be a stupid question, so you have been warned! We are very new to Chickens (as in a little over a month type of new). When we got our chickens the guy told us they should start laying within a few days. Well here we are over a month later and we have 1 maybe 2 laying and not always daily. We have 8 hens and a rooster, I would think we should have more eggs then 1 sometimes 2 a day. We are feeding them layer pellets and oyster shells. They have fresh water. We have 4 nesting boxes, which they tend to sleep in instead of laying in. I also put a plastic egg in each nest to help them know where to go. Help I am tired of buying eggs at the store. Thank you! Oh and I don't know if this matters but we have 3 dominique's (which I believe 1 is the one of them laying) 1 rhode island red, 1 buff orpington, and 4 gold laced wyandottes.
Not all breeds start laying at the same age. Also some chickens don't lay well in cold weather. As Huntinwidow said, when chickens are re-located it takes them sometime to get over the move. I wouldn't worry too much, just give them a little time.OK this may be a stupid question, so you have been warned! We are very new to Chickens (as in a little over a month type of new).
