Chicken and Egg Festival

Can any of you tell me about buying at the festival? We have never been. Will there be chicken for sale there? Any of you ever bought any there? If so, hatchery stock, show, little bit of everything, started pullets? Are they priced high? Its a long way for us, but sure would like to go see it all anyway. Would love to meet some new people. Any thoughts? I checked out the website sure looks fun anyway.
Thanks guys.
I've never been, so can't help you there, but I'm going! I have heard that there will be a swap area out away from the show area. I would think that there would be more to choose from on Friday (all the exhibitors come in on Friday, and maybe they will bring their culls?) Hopefully, someone who has experience will weigh in soon.....

I've not been either but I have been to others so I would think there would be some birds for sale. Pricing? Hmm I would think it would depend on what you were getting? I think it's going to be exciting though. Hey, Wisher I thought a few pages back there was talk of having a meet down there for us BYCer's that were going. Anything come of that? Just curious!

The owner of the local feed store is checking on the FDA regulations and the local ordinances for hosting a swap and is talking about bringing in a speaker! We decided that the only time he would be able to work it in would be about the same time as the Moulton Show, so we are planning to put it together sometime in the fall.

Seems every time I try to put together something simple and fun, it turns into a big deal! The Moultin Show coodinator has emailed me trying to get me to do a presentation on chicken care at the Moulton festival. I really don't want to, it would be too much like work (I do community education for the department.) It is still being discussed, but I don't know...... I just want to play!

How cool! Yeah, I understand though just wanting to have fun. Is anyone planning on bringing their birds to sell? Or putting their bird in the show? I was thinking about showing but I cannot figure out what day it the feather legged breeds would be judged. I guess I need to do a little more research. LOL!

I am planning on going too. I thought about getting a booth and selling my quilts and crochet stuff but DH said, have fun this year, see what it is like there. I wanted to enter the show too, but I only have 4 chickens, a hatchery BR, a production red, a 4 month old something and a gamefowl hen.... So no show birds. I think I would enjoy showing, Id like to give it a try anyhow.

If nothing else, I will bring the BYC banner (I've already spoken to Rob about this) and try to get all the BYCers together in a central location. The Event coordinator said all the spots near the poultry show are taken........we may have to meet up in the parking lot!

Henny - I don't have anything to sell but eggs. If someone wanted those, I could bring them........

We'll just all have to come to your house for breakfast. We'll bring the eggs

Got my last 4 chicks today. I had to get something this week, if I wanted them in the same brooder. Got 2 australorps and 2 red sex links, all pullets, no straightrun.

I'm getting more and more convinced I have some roo's in my 10. That is what I counted on, I figured, even after having to sell some, I'd have 6 chickens left.

Next year I will get some colored egg leyers. (Or in April, after the brooder is empty?

I didn't get ANY of the breeds I initially wanted, but I guess that's ok. This year is chicken practice year.

Hey,
You might try to get something worked up with Neal Hargle at the extension office. He was saying something to me the other day about him and some other people were wanting to get some things going for the 4h kids around here on poultry. That would probably be something that could be combined, I know the extension office has a small auditorium where they have meetings for things like this. Of course , couldn't have the swap meet there since it's in downtown. But it'd be great to get all folks young and old who are interested in chickens together and learning.
