Sorry, orps are not mine. They belong to my brother. I don't have photos.

Hi, We are bama fans and wear red!
We are just starting to build our chicken coop. It will be abt. 8x16 and hopefully that will be big enough... lol
I told my husband that we should put a window or two in for them to get some air because it gets so hot here. They will have some shade and some sunshine.
Not very sure of how big an area to fence off for them to run around in.
We are going to have abt. 18 chickens and a couple of turkeys.
We have 3 dogs, and 4 cows that are just pets.
I want to raise chickens so we will have eggs and meat. I also want a couple of cute chickens just to enjoy! Not sure which kind yet.
And I am trying to figure out how to get just 2 turkeys... Any suggestions?

Hi Bama Fan,
My coop is about the same size and our run is 10 x 20 fenced and covered due to hawks. We have two and and have 16 in one and 17 in the other. For the first time we have 16 s meat birds in the brooder, they are 10 days old and fat little pigs. We have a larger brooder with 26 layers that are also 10 days old, black and red stars and leghorns. Good luck with yours and always Roll Tide!

Thanks for the info on your run. We are also going to have to cover our run for the same reason. I am thinking of doing two rows of nesting boxes on each side so that I can get at least 20 nesting boxes in my coop. I only have a small brooder since I am just starting out. I will have to build another of some kind. Next month I am getting a few more chickens and a couple turkeys and a few guineas. I hope they all get along! lol
Do you by chance have any pics of your brooder online? I would love to see it. I need some ideas for building one. I don't think I will go over the 20 chickens I am building the coop for though.
Later on I might raise some meat birds and a few leghorns.
