ALABAMA!!

from Montgomery to our new members!

Yesterday i promised a pic of my temporary pen, so here it is. It's made out of fence scraps and a dog house. This is just to hold them over and give them more room until I can get the fencing to build the actual pens. It might become a permanent home for a bantam or two when and if they hatch.

All birds (with the exception of the smallest BA/RIR) are the same age. Bob is just huge compared to everyone else.

Hi to all the new folks!

I'm really thinking I got lucky and only have one roo and nine ladies. So far he's only crowing at noon, of all hours haha.

Ofcourse, that leaves me with zero room for more. I had counted on rehoming/eating some boys.

Well, TSC is all out of birds for the year, so we SHOULD be safe. I mean.. getting more from anywhere else requires planning, so plenty of time for intervention by my dearest fiance.

Finally talked my son into selling his BCM to make room for a new breed. Mille Fleur Leghorn if hatch goes well.

I would really like to see them go to a good home since they are his favorites. I have a trio. Any interest? Sorry, no photos here. There are some on my facebook page or I can post some when I get home.

Our Ameracauna hen Bertha has gone broody! I cracked open an egg and they're fertile. I think we are going to let her sit on them. I read they can still hatch fertile eggs stored in the fridge up to a week. I'm letting the 4 from the fridge get down to room.temperature and then going to put them under her with hers from today wish us luck!

It will be an interesting experiment. I have read that being refrigerated decreases fertility. Let us know how it turnes out.

Absolutely! I imagine she hooked up with a roo before we got her. ;) none of our boys are old enough. I read also that it decreases their chance of hatching. Hut I figure it couldn't hurt to try. I'll mark the refrigerated ones so we can see how they do. She is still laying tho...think she will eventually sit? She doesn't leave the box often, but she is still laying every day. We dont have an incubator and none of the silkies seem interested in foster moming such big eggs lol

Ameraucana are not known for their broodiness. I have one out of 15 or so, that is broody right now. The size of the eggs won't matter to your silkies if they decide they want to be broody and silikies are known to be broody. I would just hold the eggs out for a few days on the counter and see if you have anybody decide to take interest. If not you can still eat them. She was covered by my black am roo so any chicks would be pure.

Awesome. I will set them on the counter for a whole and see if I have any broody takers. If not, maybe we can make an incubator, or find someone local who would like to try their hand at hatching the eggs. :)
