I would like to know what everyone is using in their nesting boxes. I was thinking about just using the wood shavings. Please help me figure out what to use!

Just candled 7 silkie eggs. I think I should be able to see something at 5 days but I only see blood vessel in 1 egg.

Finger crossed the chicks are late developers. Will candle again in 5 days. Hopefully with better results.

I'm using hay or straw. You can usually find a barrel of it for something like 6 bucks. Also if you have pine trees, pine straw seems to work well as well. Shavings are fine too. They'll likely just kick it all out at some point anyway.

I use shavings in some, hay in some and I have shavings covered by hay in one. It gives the girls some choices, they are all used!

Thanks Wisher! I wanted to see what my options are! My Black Australorps are going on 4 months old so I guess I still have abt. 2 months before they start laying eggs.
