ALABAMA!!

Where I am kids are stuck at the school for the night. My husband was stuck in Hoover, but just made it home finally walking in the last few miles. I had to ditch my van on the side of the road and walk my 4 kids 2 miles home. Crazy day but at least I didn't get stuck on an interstate and leave my kids at a school overnight!

I just read a news article that said 4500 kids in HOOVER city schools stayed overnight. That's just Hoover.... the scale of the whole thing is just mindboggling.

Glad to say we were all safe and sound at home. Although I've wanted to strangle the kids at times

I just remind myself how much worse it would be if we were all stuck in a car on I-65 without food.

Can't wait for all the animals to go back outside and the kid back to school!

This is really just ridiculous isn't it? You think the school board would have learned better from last year. I had to walk them all home last year too. The crazy thing that I happened to mention to my husband the night before is that in a couple of weeks the kids are scheduled to be out for a weather day and I almost kept them home in case because any mention of even light snow and people go crazy. So it's not like the kids have missed so many bad weather days that the minimum school calendar wouldn't be met. I hope those teachers are getting overtime for their hard work!

I'm in north Bibb, just out of Jefferson Co. We got prolly two inches, roads are a mess. Biggest problem in Bham is that there are an over abundance of idiots living there that can't drive on snow/ice and block the roads with their cars. Buddy drove from my house yesterday to Cahaba Heights, said he had no problem with the roads, just the idiots blocking the roads.

Does anyone in this group use a brinsea incubator? If so did you buy it in state or online? What has been your experience with there products? Just doing some research and the company site says they have a Alabama distributor, but one isn't listed?

Thanks.

Is anyone in Birmingham? How much snow did they get? I'm not far but we only got maybe an inch. From everything I have heard, it must be several feet.

I think the whole B'ham metro got about 2 inches. I know we did in Montevallo, and like the person from Bibb county said, 2 inches as well.

It really wasn't THAT much, folks just weren't prepared for it. People are impatient, try to do a U-turn and drive on the wrong side of the road... stupid stuff. Try driving with an appropriate distance between cars and someone will wedge their car in the gap inbetween.... I *hate* driving to/from Birmingham on a normal day... so many times I've been practically ran off the road. Now add some snow. Blegh.

Here in walker county we are already losing most of our snow. Sorry for our absence we've been farm focused for months getting cover crops in for spring! Sad to report that last night during the bad weather some hungry raccoons took advantage of the Pyrenees' snuggled up for warmth, and dispatched 4 silkie hens and one roo before they were caught. It was a sad scene at the bantam coop during egg collection this morning. Due to this, we will be looking to replace the hens soon. Preferably with hens or pullets, black, paint, or partridge. Please keep your eyes and ears open for us! Hope everyone is staying toasty!
