ALABAMA!!

At what age will my roos (biggie and tupac) stop trying to hurt each other? They are constantly bumping chests, stare down, pecking beaks, and occasional jumping spur trick. Their neck feathers stand up. They are crazy

I agree. One will eventually submit and allow the other to be dominate. It helps if the submissive one has a place to hide.

weather permitting, we sit outside and let them forage. They have acres but just hang out right under me, wife, and 4 yr old. The roos would rather fight than eat treats.

Sorry, Raz! Hurry home and I'll set you up!
3 1/2 weeks to go! I'm ready to be home. Plus, I always need new chicks.

I am noticing some chicken types short hand. I figured out that EEs is Easter Egg, that RIR is Rhode Island Red, and that Orp is short for Orpingtons. What are some of the others more commonly used?
I used to use AGF (American Game Fowl) a lot when I still had them.

TomTom: its funny, other than my mixed flock of Delwares and some barnmixes chickens, mine are all feather footed.

My run is a terrible mess right now... quarter inch of muck. My white chickens are looking like orange drowned rats (they don't want to stay inside all the time... so they walk around in the mess). I'm going to have to find something to do about it... It's in the highest section of my yard, but without any grass, it doesn't matter. If I had feather footed birds... I think I'd be losing my mind.

There is one selling marans right now in our area, but the eggs are a meduim brown. Not sure if that is correct for them. Thought they were suppose to be dark.

We did get leghorns last year. And bantam bin goes really fast.

TSC will sell whatever is cheap a.k.a. quantity over quality type hatchery birds. They're good start birds.. no big loss if you screw up (I know that sounds bad, but folks do lose birds when starting out.. usually figuring out where the weak spots of their coop are).

Tomtom you said you were 30 weeks? That's exciting. PLUS having the baby before the heat hits is good. I did four babies and the summer one was the one I was the most uncomfortable with. Thanks for the heads up about the price dropping. How long do chick days last anyway? In my part of PA they were only there a weekend. I guess it's different everywhere.

Yup. 30 weeks. This young lady is a busy body.. kicking me silly. I had my son in January, he just turned two. We avoided any summer issues, thank goodness.

Chick days here last a month or longer. I managed to stop buying after two week, last time.

I kept checking, but there just wasn't anything I cared for. Some years are better than others. Last year were plain Jane breeds mostly. I love my birdies, but NONE of them were on my wishlist.

Groleau6, here the chick days at TSC last for several weeks. It is torture.

Agreed. The anxiety is horrible. I HAVE to go in and check, atleast once a week.

In a couple of weeks you'll be a pro! So much fun articles to read on here.

Anyone else getting snow? We're already up to inch or so of accumulation!

We had some sleet/ice, but most of it was gone 20 minutes later. Seems like those snowdays are a waste of time here, but it could have turned out differently.

I checked an hour ago and already had 4 inches of snow! Looks like the kids are out of school yet another day too. At least they have something to do outside tomorrow ;)
