They are my favorite. Very docile and friendly. If I had to pick one breed it would be the Cochins. They are very broody and make great moms. They are on the large end of bantam. About the size of a football I'd guess. I have a roo that really needs a good home.

I wish a can keep a roo but neighbors would shoot me.

We had some sleet/ice, but most of it was gone 20 minutes later. Seems like those snowdays are a waste of time here, but it could have turned out differently.

I was trapped at Montevallo during the last snow earlier this month!
Since then they've been closing at the drop of a hat, or a flake.





We ended up with about 2" and no power this morning. And very unhappy goats.
Then it all froze, so not so much snow as an icy blanket.

I was off work early yesterday because of the snow. Got bored....and a bad case of Chickitis!!!!

So what is a girl going to do? So I went around the house looking for materials and build myself a VERY simple still air incubator. Basically a styrofoam container with light, thermo/hum reader, and a bowl of water with a sponge in it. Had problem with fluctuating temp and humidity but I think I got it stable around 40% and temp 99 degree. I THINK..... Will check at noon. If everything holds stable then I will raid the quail cage today for some eggs to test it out. Any suggestions or helpful hints? Never incubated before so it will be interesting.

Its so odd that northern Alabama is covered in snow and southern is sunny 56 degrees.
