This is Mr. Deville. He is a Bantam Cochin He was named Cruella because of the black and white are split like her hair until I discover that she is actually a he.


This is Millie. She is a Bantam Cochin. I hope she is a girl. Not sure what to call her coloring.



This is Big Bird. She is Light Brahma but her coloring is all wrong because she is a hatchery bird. But I still think it's pretty.


Not a good pic but these are my Old English Game Bantams.



BTW, did you know the only chicken I wanted this year was 2 cochin bantam pullets. NOTHING ELSE Chicken math got me

Worst yet, I can't keep my favorite, the Mottled Cochin because it's a boy.

Incubator is a Farm Innovators forced air/auto egg turner. I use three temp gauges, try to keep it at 98, humidity at 50-60. I did not candle them at all.

Here are my suggestions ....

First, use your own eggs until you get he hang of it. Make sure they are fertile by either cracking and looking for the dermaplast (bulls eye) or by watching for development.

Next, test your thermometer (s) or get a SpotCheck from Brinsea. I lost many eggs from a pair of thermometers that were both exactly 2.6 degrees too low.

Then, try to keep your temp between 99 and 100, but 99.5 is perfect.

Finally, try not adding any water to the bator until it gets down to below 25% RH. Add water, but not a lot and let it go until it is back down below 25%.

Candle at day 9 and 18. Only toss seepers, stinkers, during candling or any time they are detected, and clears at day 18. After the day 18 candle, remove the turner, and raise your humidity to about 60% and lower the temp to about 98.5.

There are some variations on this, but if this works, it's easy. If it doesn't, then egg-topsy and see where the problem seems to happen. Adjust and try again.

thanks Wisher. I just put four large and four bantam eggs of mine into the incubator. Getting another temp gauge as well.
