Thanks! I'm glad I could help! Everyone has been so helpful and friendly to be on here so I try to do the same! I'll take a pic of the door once I clear all the stuff from in front of the coop :)

First run in with a hawk today, my leghorns were out of the run on their evening stroll when a huge red tail hawk dove at them. My chickens ran under my equipment trailer and the hawk wadded himself up in some bushes next to the trailer. Hawks can't outrun leghorns haha I'm sure he'll try again I'm gonna keep them locked up for a few days.

New babies!!! Excited to be extending our flock but nervous since it our first time to add. Any advice?

Hi All! I'm a newbie, and recently started a petition to have backyard chickens allowed in Helena. Looking for other locals who would be interested in signing. Nice to meet everyone, we have four chicks that we adore hidden and safe in our coop that our neighbors adore. That wasn't enough, because everyone isn't as lucky to have cool neighbors like we do. So the good fight has officially begun! Wish us luck

I made a "safe zone" for my little ones for when I put them in with the adults. I used some scrap wire fencing (2x4) to give them a place where they could get into but the spaces were too little for the grown birds. I keep chick starter and water inside the area (far enough from the wire that the adults can't reach it through the wire) so they know where to eat and drink and they venture out on their own. The adults will peck and chase them for a while, but soon everyone will be used to the new arrangement and will ignore each other.

dragonfly i also used metal roofing around the bottom of my run and on the back bottom of the coop and left the ends open and covered with wire also put a single strand oe electric fence around the entire perimitere (sorry for the misspelling) also have plans to put a strand around the top of the run to help with cats that might try to climb the wire

i use a big transport cage in the coop at night and take it out during the day the younger ones roam around inside the coop and they can go out in the run if they want too i use the cage as a safe zone at night
