ALABAMA!!

If you order from Ideal is only a $25.00 minimum instead of a 25 chick order. So you can just order the 8 or so chicks you need. If they have what you want that is. You may even get a couple of Warmers (roos) thrown in for free also.

Wow, can't believe I hadn't run across Ideal (looks like they are the biggest one out there). I looked at a few reviews, and it seems they send up to 10 roos with your order. Would I be able to get rid of those on craigslist pretty easy?

I'm thinking about just going through myers and ordering 15 and selling 7-8 on craigslist. I would think it would be easier to sell female chicks on CL than it would be to give away roos. Is that a good assumption??

On another subject, does anyone keep roosters in a subdivision, without issues??? I hadn't given it serious thought. Our coop will be about 60-70 yards from the nearest house.

My Uncle has some right in the middle of town but then again we live in a small town.

Way to go Orps,
You got some to hatch. I think I have only gotten 2 more Quail eggs since I gave you those. Whenever I get around to finishing up my incubator i'm going to have to give the quail some artificial light to get them producing again so I can hatch out some replacements.

Got 3 chicks running around. I don't think the remaining 2 eggs are going to hatch. But not too bad for 1-2 week old eggs.

I'm not getting any eggs from my Texas a&m either. Got only 1 egg this month and it's the wrong color again. It's was bluish and not dotted.

If you want I can try to hatch some for you. But beware my % of hatching is not too good.

Other note, silkies are doing well. Starting to integrating them with the flock. I'm really attached to smallest chick in the group. When it sees me it will start screaming and run towards me looking for food. It will jump on my hand and freak out in excitement when it sees food. Unfortunately 9 out of 10 times very friendly chicks always turn out to be roos.

Really hope it turns out to be a hen.

Based on some advice, I've changed the layout of my coop and now I think I can handle around 10 birds. Here's where I'm writing about it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/933725/das-h-hnerhaus

Convinced my wife to keep 10 and order 15. Here's what we ordered from Meyer Hatchery:

4 Barred Rocks
3 Buff Orpingtons
4 Australorps
4 Easter Eggers
One freebie, TBD. (Meyer Meal Maker)

With 10 chickens we'll definitely be giving away eggs. Anyone know of a shelter or food pantry in HSV that takes eggs? I'm sure our friends will take some, but I like the thought of sharing with those who are in need.
