ALABAMA!!

When Wisher and I went to Knoxville couple weeks ago, I was freakin amazed at how big the standard bred white rocks were. I have no clue about their personality, but they looked like they could eat quite a bit. The Dorkings have pretty good appetites as well. Sometimes I feel like I'm slopping piggies with all the extra table food they get. lol
But they aren't slackers....if I turn them out, they are rooting about the edge of the woods and never look back at the coop till dark. I like that.

Last week one of my parents friend brought over a free range hen. It was already processed. It was nice of them but let me say the chicken's meat was hard as a rock!!!! Only after cooking it under the pressure cooker for a couple hours the meat was somewhat edible. But the soup was really good. So was it a really old bird? I've never had home grown birds so I don't know.

Most likely an older bird my parents used it raise free range birds and they were nice and tender

I love japanese bantams -- are they bred to standard? How long have you been breeding them? RC or SC?
thanks!

Hi! Thank you for the welcome!

Full disclosure: this is our first clutch (second is in the incubator :) ). We just got one roo and 3 hens late this summer and this is their progeny. They are all short legged and came from a master breeders Joe and Linda Chandler http://bantamclub.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=1016 One of theirs also just won in Ohio. http://www.ohionational.org/ So really it is his breeding program that you will be evaluating, not ours yet :)

They are still "itty biddies"--only about 3 weeks old. As they are just getting their "big boy/girl" feathers, we don't know which chickens will have feathers/legs/breasts that fit standard, though their parents are on site.

If you have other questions, please let us know :)

When was it processed? They need to sit in the fridge 2-3 days after processing to relax. It makes a huge difference.
