ALABAMA!!

@kimberly35042 - are those Dorkings? So cute!

I have about a dozen EEs for sale if anyone is interested. There are blues, blacks, Wheatens, splashes, and some "yet to be determined." They were hatched from my Ameraucanas just last Tuesday. Straight run only, $4 each.

YES! They are the Red Dorkings. I actually had a pretty good hatch this time-- 16 of 21 fertile hatched :)

What do the parents of those Ameraucanas look like?? Are they really tall??
I've added Crested Creme Legbars, but they are only 5 weeks old. What can I say.... I had blue egg envy

I have sent birds to the state lab for testing. There are three locations in the state but I would recommend sending them to Auburn. Go on the State Ag site and look for poultry testing. There are instructions and forms. It costs $10 per submission (not per bird) so you can send more than one if you have several die, but they don't want them frozen or more than a day or two dead without refrigeration.

Thanks Wisher! I really appreciate it. I am hoping I will not need the info right now as my sweet bantam orp is doing a bit better. I took her to an avian vet here in Mobile last week who pretty much had me thinking she had one little foot in the grave. Today I took her to a vet in Lucedale, MS who actually treats chickens and he told me that he thinks she has had a stroke and very well might recover with a little more time and TLC. I am one happy chicken momma today!

Thanks again!!

I forgot, I think true Value/Ace in Helena has chicks too now. You'd have to ask Orps, she's mentioned them.

I had some trouble with one of my dogs today.. he's been getting second chances for way too long. His daddy was put down for biting Johnathan (not up to date with rabies shot..) This dog has the same issues. It has to be genetic... something is not right with him. He'll be perfectly ok for months, and then attack our other dog for whatever reason. They have horrible fights... can't separate them for nothing. They've about killed eachother before. The other dog is just defending himself, he's sweet as can be.

I was out there today, feeding everyone. The ducks were in one of the shelters (we have two). The dogs were eating their food and just loafing around. I'm standing near the duck shelter and the dog goes in. I tell him to get out (ducks were trying to lay their eggs), he goes further inside, I tell him to get out.. I hear growling and the duck panicking. I flip the shelter over and he's on top of the duck with her wing in his mouth. I grab him by the scruff of his neck and pull him off and he tries to reach around and get me. I think he realized in time it was me and never did bite.... I let him go and he went after our other dog who had no part in it whatsoever and attacked him.

This dog is a freaking timebomb

We've been dealing with this for years... we just can't seem to do what must be done. He's ok in a people only home, but he's not housebroken and I wouldn't trust him near kids. He's fine most of the time, but entirely unpredictable.

He's in my kitchen in a crate now.... he saw the other dog about an hour after the initial issue and started growling right away.. I can't safely put him back.

On their facebook page they said the chicks are in. They are going to have rabbits and ducks as well.

I've been working with dogs for awhile and may have a clue on what is going on. He was probably not going after the duck as prey. If he was, the duck's neck would be what he would go after not the wing. Probably thought duck was after HIS duck food and the duck really didn't have a place to get out of his way. As for your other dog. He was pretty angry and he vented it on your other dog. As for solution it's a different matter. Time out in crate was the correct thing to do. Long term modification would need an evaluation(9 out of 10 times dogs do give a warning but it's hard to catch sometimes) and a plan to change behavior which is a little more tricky and time consuming.

RABBITS?!

Oh woman, can't you just shush!

Thoas were next on the 'things I want to breed 'n eat' list.

We got our first muscovy eggs over the past few days, tried one yesterday and

they are SO good. Johnathan now wants muscovy eggs for breakfast instead of chicken eggs

And the dog... he's really, REALLY dumb.. and inbred looking.

The daddy was a beagle with papers, that means squat though, it can still be a freaking puppy mill dog. He had weird legs, they're all turned out like duck feet. This dog has the same thing. Who knows what happened to their inherited disposition.

He has a very protective posture all the time, looks threatened all the time, which is why I feel he's a timebomb. You can't tell when he's going to snap. We've gotten him neutered last year and that helped a little, his warning doesn't escalate as often now. But it only takes one time of snapping at the wrong thing. As it is, he is not allowed near the kids, just in case.

And yes, all food is his food, even if it's at the other end of the yard and not his
roll.png
HIS food was a good 30-40 feet away from the shelter the ducks were in, he was there when I put it there, he knew it was there. But no.. he wants duck food. And even then, the duck food was outside of the shelter, the duck was inside.. not visible from where the food was. But, I found the first duck egg outside with a puncture in it on Sunday, so maybe he was after more eggs.

I've tried rehoming him, to someone willing to work with him, but obviously no one is looking for an inbred looking beagle that's 4 years old and needs to be completely trained in well.. everything. He's on borrowed time for now. I'm too soft... so is Justin.

It's the non barking one. The other is just excited I was near the fence. OMG people! They're both sorely neglected
hmm.png
Vicious circle, they bark and jump on you and bark and so on. Well, that's a whole other can of worms. We're terrible dog owners, I'll be the first to admit it. I can't train a dog to save my life. Can't reason with dogs

I hear peeps?!?! I did not document when she started sitting but I looked back at my post here it was 16 days ago. Is it going to be ok? I've always documented, which was a good thing the time I had the 'never give up' broody. Crazy chickens! Why do they have to change the rules all the time? Geezzzzzz how am I supposed to learn the rules, if they keep changing!!!
