ALABAMA!!

Quote: I'm not sure if this would be an option, but I re-homed the puppies in the bulletin board. Things are a little weird right now since the Montgomery Advertiser owns it now. I'm still mad that they changed the layout, but left the website the same as always. I could have given away over 30 puppies.

We only had one person show up that we wouldn't have wanted to give a puppy to. They were apparently looking for something that looked more like a pitt. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have given that guy a pitt. They have a bad enough reputation due to stupid people. Everyone else that showed up looked like they'd give the puppies a good home. Every single one of them has called me back to tell me how the puppies are doing. No one went to the pound. It's been great to hear!

I forgot to mention this, but my local feed store is having a hard time getting chicks this year. The owner's son handles all live animal transactions (buying, selling, and trading) so both dad and I talk to him a lot. Week before last he asked dad if we had any chicks for sale and Friday he asked me when I was picking up feed and checking out what they had. They only order their waterfowl from Metzer and they have switched chick suppliers several times in the past few years. Cackle was the hatchery they ordered from last and they keep getting burned by every hatchery they've tried. I'm not sure if they've gone through Meyer yet, but I'll have to check.

I think it's safe to say I have no problems selling ANY chicks I need gone. They're pretty happy to deal with us since no one has ever complained about getting sick chicks that came from us. They like it even better when my flock is NPIP. Which, I'm actually getting re-certified after my chicks get here.

I have been here, just not posting much. I have had a hectic few weeks (months?) but I have been keeping up with my threads......sorta'........I've been reading skimming them, anyway. Work has been really stressful because my supervisor has been off (deployed) and my secretary retired leaving me to do the jobs of all three of us. I mentioned before that I was tired all the time and just when I started to feel a bit better, I came down with the bronchitis crud that has been going around. I am just now feeling like I'm getting over it and it's been three weeks since it started. I have been hatching like crazy and have the Sportsman full for the first time - EVER!! I just sent eight roosters off to the family that gets and processes all my extra roosters, along with eleven chicks I hatched for them to take and raise for themselves. Yes, I am an enabler. Oh, and they brought me another tray full of eggs to hatch for them.....

The Sportsman (I need to name mine like Tara did) holds six trays and each tray holds a maximum of 48 chicken eggs. I put eggs in on Fridays and pull eggs to put in the hatchers on Wednesdays. I have a tray to pull and candle today and they will go into the hatcher because they are off the normal schedule and are due on the 16th (Monday.) That will free up one tray for the eggs I collect to hatch in the coming week. I have one tray in there for another friend and they went in on the same day as a tray of mine, so there are two trays due on the same day - that will be fun.

Oh, and I got my five year badge!
