About hour North is Vick Quail Farm and they told me they would sell eggs in May from bobwhite quail or birds now, google them! GPN

The only reason why I don't just get chickens is the noisy roo. I really don't want my neighbors upset with the noise.
I really want to be able to repopulate my flock without resorting to chicken conjugal visits:lol:.

I see these birds filling a couple roles. First they should be fun for me and my kids. Second they should provide my family with good eggs. Thirdly the flock should be expandable if the economic situation gets any worse.

Karen,
I am getting mine from a local feed store, they will be here tomorrow. You might check all the local feed stores around b'ham and see if they're getting any in, my store just ordered extras for me when he placed his order

Anybody near Blount County want some black walnuts? I have someone bringing me a bunch tomorrow and if you let me know tonight then she will bring extras...

Why not both? LOL! The eggs are really small compared to chicken eggs. I love my quail and my chickens. My chickens have been laying since Jan. 1st when they became of age. My quail laid last year but have not started this year. Hopefully as the days get longer they will lay. They are outside.

I'm waiting for mine to start too- THey were hatched last fall so This will be there first time laying.

Hey Doubletap,

This is weird. I live in Bluff Park, too. Is there something in the air up here that makes us want chickens?

My hubby says it's all the chickweed in the back yard.

I called the city last week and I think they got a good laugh out of it. We'd better hurry up and get our birds before they decide to put restrictions in place! They even told me I could have a roo if I wanted and I know there is a Hispanic family on Clearview that has one b/c I've heard him.

When are you going to get yours? I'm planning on the end of March. Maybe we could split an order or something.

Cheers,
Karen

Just remember --- speaking of the bad economy --- if you have a roo, you can make an endless supply of eggs AND meat.

On the downside, having a roo means your chicken addiction can get out of hand if you let it (says the man who went from 13 chickens to 80 in less than a year, with 35 eggs in the 'bator right now).
