Does anyone in Alabama raise Barred Rocks (or any of the Rocks)? I will be looking for some come spring time. I would prefer to get from a breeder rather than a hatchery.

I'm pretty sure it was a hawk. Sigh. She was a great little layer, too, of baby blue eggs. I guess I don't need to reduce my flock numbers, after all. The girls will be on lockdown for a few days; they probably won't be very happy about that, but hopefully it will be enough to encourage the predator to move on to easier hunting grounds.I have a dual purpose flock for that reason: eggs and table. Come Spring time I will be looking for some Barred Rock hens, pullets, chicks or eggs....Perhaps we can talk in a couple of months. I am a little north of you but that might be a good excuse to go to the beach....New member from Alabama raising Barred Rocks and Delawares in cottonwood/Dothan area. Breed mostly for my table but will sell a few hens or rooster to help someone out.
Chickens make a great excuse!!!!We are on the way PC for sure, we have a son in Huntsville and are always looking for an excuse to use his guest room.

Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
