ALABAMA!!

I had my first predator loss today; I guess I've been lucky to have made it over a year without any casualties. My EE, Ethel, put up a good fight, from the looks of things. :( I'm pretty sure it was a hawk. Sigh. She was a great little layer, too, of baby blue eggs. I guess I don't need to reduce my flock numbers, after all. The girls will be on lockdown for a few days; they probably won't be very happy about that, but hopefully it will be enough to encourage the predator to move on to easier hunting grounds.

New member from Alabama raising Barred Rocks and Delawares in cottonwood/Dothan area. Breed mostly for my table but will sell a few hens or rooster to help someone out.
I have a dual purpose flock for that reason: eggs and table. Come Spring time I will be looking for some Barred Rock hens, pullets, chicks or eggs....Perhaps we can talk in a couple of months. I am a little north of you but that might be a good excuse to go to the beach....

Okay so I have a question.... My Japanese Bantam hen was broody on eggs and she raised them and it has been about 4-5 months since she has laid an egg still nothing. I have tried oyster shells, non GMO feed, and many other things but still no egg yet. Does anyone know why she is not laying? She is about 2 1/2 - 3 years old now.

Here’s a sure sign than the days are finally getting longer! 3 of my 4 pullets who hatched in June are in full production. :wee
