ALABAMA!!

AUCHICKENGAL where did you get your heating source? Is it better then heat lamp?

I purchased it from Premier 1. It is much safer than a heat lamp, and it gives the chicks a more natural start (no 24/7 light, they come out and play in the cooler air, then run under to warm up temporarily, etc.). I've been very happy with it.

I just put my "mama heating pad" into action. I ordered a Vivosun from Amazon and it seems to be working ok. My "day olds" went under it ok last night and they all emerged seeming happy and playful this morning. :) I ordered this one with automatic thermostat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016MKY7C8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And I built this to put into my brooder.....

Thanks for saving me a long trip to Georgia. They had some breeds that I was interested in.

We live in Ozark between Montgomery/Troy and Dothan. Live in a neighborhood on the outskirts with some other livestock a few streets over. Have two barred rocks and two RI reds, both pullets. Just about to move these babies into their coop. Have occasional cats who “visit”, and two neighbors with large dogs, not to mention my own dachshund. I’m afraid to let them free range when I can’t be there to supervise! Need to get started on some kind of portable run/tractor.
