I'm hoping that she does a good job. This is her first time broody. My extras go in the freezer so I'm not concerned about selling. I will keep the best for breeding and everyone else is dinner.Muscovy's are pretty good at keeeping babies alive even in winter and if you get tired of them they sell pretty good
OH NO! I am so sorry! Are you sure it's fowlpox? Are they having other symptoms besides the lesions? I haven't heardf of any other cases in the area, have you called county extension? Keep me posted (on The Old Folks Home, I am there more often.)If I ever get a set-up in place for ducks, I'd like to have a muscovy or two.
I've just realized that my chickens have fowlpox. I live in the woods, so there is no way to control all of the mosquitoes. Anyone else have experience with this? Are chicks from hatcheries vaccinated against this?
About a year ago, my hens (5 then) all came down with what everyone said was fowlpox (I posted pics here). I lived in FL at the time and the mosquitos were horrible. They did not have any other symptoms other than lesions on their combs and the combs were off color. If I ever get a set-up in place for ducks, I'd like to have a muscovy or two.
